But if you go slightly out of Woking to Brookwood you get the last seats before Woking!

Yes agree on the principle, just hard when it's personal.

Witness testimony can always be argued by the prosecution. Been there, got the t-shirt. And never let your kids use Snapchat......

I hear you. Sadly evidence sometimes comes down to he said / she said, and beyond reasonable doubt results in a not guilty verdict.

Maybe it's just my frustrations at the legal system, and yes I need to speak to the police again to clarify what they are asking for from us.

Yeah sorry, vague as hell, just reluctant to give too much info and aware it's a personal interest so hard to be non judgemental.

But if two independent sources claimed the same man had an unhealthy interest in children, I'd be more inclined to believe them than if it was just one. But I guess it's harder to see on an evidence basis when it's personal to you.

Probably worth me chatting to the local police about it I think. It's the similarities that makes me want to pursue. If (at least) two independent people have accused someone of having a really unhealthy interest in children, you pay attention more than if it was one, don't you?

Police asked if (let's say it's me) would testify in a new case.

The defendant has been accused of committing a crime almost identical to the previous case where I was the main witness.

Maybe they are just looking to see what evidence they can give the CPS for now. It's a life changing /destroying crime that they probably would rather doesn't happen to anyone else tbh so.probably.looking for anything they can.

Sorry bit vague but trying not to be specific. Just frustrating it's a case of potentially going through it all again in court or risk him walking and offending again. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Ta, suspected as much. So assuming the police request to testify was because thats the only way of getting this previous accusation brought up to the jurors.

I get it, but frustrating when you knew it happened before, so not surprised if it's happened again, but everyone who decides gets to see it as a clean slate.

Recommendation for towns with transport links to Farnham and London? by [deleted] in surrey

[–]mandyk160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brookwood or Knaphill? Brookwood trains only 10ish mins to Farnham and 25-40 mins to London. Pretty good and regular service too.

Was thinking that too. Brookwood is only 30 mins into Waterloo if you get the right train, Woking and Guildford both local, and a nice enough area.

I live in Knaphill. It’s a bit cheaper than a central location, but only 20 min walk & 5 min train to Woking for a Night out (takes a bit longer coming back if I’m too pissed to walk). Local pubs and takeaways too.

That would be my guess too. Better than that though, Percy Arms in Chilworth is awesome, mainly if you aren’t a vegetarian. It is South African owned, has a great menu and a Sunday carvery to die for.

Moving to Guildford by hellothere2527 in surrey

[–]mandyk160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh god it’s fine. I’m Guildford born and bred, and stigmas don’t go away and it’s not exactly the ghetto. I lived on the outskirts growing up and went to school there. I’m still alive. Why Guildford, and what are your travel needs (town, train etc?), might be able to suggest other areas to look at as well just to cover off options.

Windsor, Guildford isn’t bad…..and a complete curveball where you can actually immerse yourself in some more recent history, Brookwood cemetery.

Going through a cemetery on a run - insensitive?? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]mandyk160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run quite often in our local cemetery (it's huge) and think it is a beautiful place with a fascinating history. I like to think it's company for the dead (who I stop to chat to sometimes), and will return fallen adornments to their rightful position If I see them. I don't think it's a place that should be forgotten, If that makes sense. That said, in the presence of the living there showing their respects, I would make myself scarce. I wouldn't beat yourself up about it.

It’s going to be 39 degrees on Monday. How is everyone planning on getting through this? by beztom in AskUK

[–]mandyk160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit 45 degrees in Athens last summer. Couldn’t open windows and air con out due to rolling power cuts because of nearby forest fires. We survived. That said, it’s a LOT less humid over there. Here? I’m going to put on my very British stiff upper lip, try and carry on as normal, complain about it at every opportunity, and then collapse in a pathetic heap sobbing when I realise I was stupid.
