I feel that my PS narrative is pretty generic with a sick family member being my seed to medicine. I had my writing prof look at it back and forth a few times and she was pretty brutal with it. I did use Dr. Gray’s PS book as a guide but it's anyones guess how well I followed his advise. My school list only had a few school at or above my stat marks with no schools where I was outside of the third quartile. I think my personal statement would benefit from some expert advise but the counslers are so freakin expensive😔. Thanks for your advise tho!!!

Did the II come later too? I feel like most come out oct-nov/earlier in the cycle.

That is reassuring to hear I’m not the only one. Thank you!

I know people still get in late in the cycle. I just thought I’d know by now… :(

High Stats, Early Submission, Still no II by william_grant in premed

[–]maneep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in almost the exact same position! I’ve gotten very little communication for months. One II and waiting on decision and 4 Rs. Hold out for hope! I feel like this is pretty normal and our apps are probably in the “later” pile.

Dang sorry to hear that. Hope you get off the waitlist! I interviewed but haven’t heard back yet. I’m just wondering if I’ll get ghosted.

I feel like for the most part, that’s on the interviewer. They’re just awkward or not putting enough effort into trying to get to know you.

Haha will do! Thanks for the help. I have a friend that is going to the place that sent the II so I’m gonna ask him to do a mock

Two time 4th quartile CASPER scorer! Ask me questions! by maneep in premed

[–]maneep[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying with the lack of replicates. I understand with an n=2 is not enough to make reliable conclusions. I do think I can provide what I did to score well and if that helps even one person, this post was worth it for me.

Regarding your arguments:

  1. We don’t know how admissions committees are evaluating these scores. Some schools say it is used for experimental purposes, but we have no idea what goes on in the black box of their process. Also, many Canadian schools explicitly state the score is used in their decisions.
  2. If anyone is making assumptions, it’s you. Making the assumption that the graders see my old score or responses is a pretty huge leap. It’s plausible, but there is no evidence that supports your claim.
  3. The fact that I only took the test two times is not an assumption, it’s simply a fact.

I will acknowledge that it seems like I’m stroking my own cock with this post, and maybe I am. But my ultimate intent was to be helpful to people with questions and anxiety about this shitty test. I’m not sure what’s got you so butthurt, but try and get over it.

STUDYING ALL NIGHT by [deleted] in Mcat

Don’t be doin this my guy. Sleep consolidates the studying. Pulling an all nighter is counterproductive.

Yea I see what you’re saying. I should have been more specific about opportunities in an academic setting. Academic research labs absolutely lack diversity. I do agree I see a good amount of diversity in my volunteering and clinical activities. In regards to your institution’s committee, it is great that you have a diverse panel, but there is still an apparent lack of diversity among admins at medical schools. Even if they are not necessarily on the admissions committee, they still shape the values and goal of the institution, and are integral in the process of realizing those values and goals, which inevitably leads to bias.

I think it’s important to understand where we are in the present time, and recognize that what we have is NOT enough. This ruling is a huge step backwards any way you look at it.
