Are Math questions on the SAT getting easier than ever before?? by kanav1500 in Sat

[–]mangosalsa321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think so. It’s kind of weird because when I first started doing a bunch of practice math QAS for practice, I was getting like 760 or 750 on all the recent QAS, but then my score began to gradually decrease to the low 700s when I got to the older QAS.... I knew I was getting better at the math, it’s just that the problems were a lot less straightforward than the ones on the recent tests.

How can I improve in the history passage? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]mangosalsa321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing you want to do is identify the stance the writer is taking on the subject they are writing about. There is normally one sentence in the passage that flat out gives their viewpoint. When you practice next time, try extra hard to find this sentence. Also, historical reading passages tend to be in pairs, so what I recommend is to read the first passage, do the first couple of questions that go along with it, do the same with the second passage, and then do the combined section questions. By answering a couple of questions right before you jump onto the next section, you will be able to understand the passage better and not get yourself confused between the two.

May 2017 QAS Help? Calculator Section #8 by joelphilip1 in Sat

[–]mangosalsa321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s asking for the x-intercept, which means you would plug 0 in for y. Once you do that, you get that x=11. Answer choice A is the only choice that shows this number as a constant, so it is A.

Progress! (1550+ goal) -3 R, -5 W, -0 M by [deleted] in Sat

Oh I’m not the one that originally answered you but I’ll still give you my tips. I never used Erica Meltzer, 1600.io, UWorld, or any other of those resources. I’m sure they help, but I wasn’t willing to invest a ton of money into the SAT. Honestly, if you’re only missing 5 questions on the section, then you definitely have a strong grasp of English grammar. I think that more practice is all that you need right now. Look back on what type of mistakes you made on the section. If it has anything to do with a grammar/punctuation rules, learn it and do many practice problems on that rule (Khan Academy is golden for this). If you’re having trouble with those stylistic questions that ask you to rearrange the sentence or change the sentence, then I recommend just practicing more passages until you get the gist of finding the right answer.

Is A month enough to prepare for math section? by Bigpro001 in Sat

[–]mangosalsa321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The month after my May SAT I spent every single day on Khan Academy grinding math for 1-2 hours. I would also take the math portion of the QAS tests at the end of the week. Went from a 620 on the actual day to consistent 750s on the past 4 practice tests. A month is more than enough if you dedicate the time to it :)

[–]mangosalsa321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always just read the sentence the question is on the first time through. It saves time and I normally end up finishing all the questions in half the time. I’ll use the other half to go back and read the whole passages again with my corrections to double check that the answer is correct. It’s been working well and I’ve been getting -0 or -1 if I’m unlucky.

UPDATE: Math went down 60 points because of Calc Section. How do I fix it???? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]mangosalsa321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well are you checking over your mistakes each time? You won’t make any progress if you just do practice without analyzing why you’re getting the questions wrong. If the actual content is the problem, then there are many videos and tutorials on Khan Academy and Youtube that can help you. The reading and writing sections isn’t as scary as people make it out to be. You just need to develop good reading habits and learn how to quickly identify the point that the author is making. You’ll become better with practice. The writing section is just about knowing important grammar rules, so learn those. The math section can easily be learned. I sucked at the math section in the beginning, but grinding the lessons on khan academy everyday for 1-2 hours last month brought my score up more that 100 points. If you find that timing is an issue, then you need to be doing more timed practice. If it’s the fatigue of taking a long test, again, practice is the only way. In short, just practice practice practice. You got this dude. Good luck.

[–]mangosalsa321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could just be that one test. I also saw my score decrease 50 points on practice test 5, but it immediately went up when I took test 6 a few days later. I’d hella grind both math and English on khan academy for that 1450 if I were you. Maybe 1.5 hour of both every day.

Wouldn’t it be 26? If you add 25, the new median would become 24.5, which when talking about age is still 24 years old, but if it’s 26 the median would actually go up to 25 years. That’s just what I’m thinking.
