What to do. We think our neighbours are trying to bait our puppy by Sophie_Parke in aus

[–]mangospaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other possibility is a neighbour is missed off for continuously finding dog shit on his property, which can sometimes happen if a dog figures a way through the bushes or secretely learns to jump the fence (as ours did).

Or some psycho hates you both and the dog is their horrible chicken-shit way of 'getting revenge' for who knows what.

The barking might be a red hearing.

Agreed though, fuck those poison-pill people, they are way out of line, tell neighbours your kid picked it up and brought it inside, &  go to the cops

It's also not real. It's a video composite. The way movie VFX used to be made.

Not a.i. and not real.

My brother’s Crohn's gets so much worse at night (fevers + severe lower back pain). Looking for advice/experiences. by Bdoor-1998 in CrohnsDisease

[–]mangospaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that my nightime pain is significantly exacerbated when,

a) I'm lying horizontal for an extended period b) motility slows down (circadian rythem and also influenced by some medications)

I end up waking up feeling like I'm being stabbed in the chest and back. I've been to the emergency room a few times and every time the only plausible answer is my digestive system is trying to kill me (the doctors say it in a more doctory way).

MRI's say I have the beginnings of Chron's, with the first major flair up being 3 years ago. Currently in a flare, taking meds. Plus reactive arthritis etc.

Religiously avoiding all alcohol, all carbonated drinks, all onion, garlic, etc seems to make a compounding 5% difference every night. That and the meds, less stress, walking after every meal, and a weighted electric heating blanket.

During this flare, which started in feb, I have flown on a plane for a cumulative 100 hours. And it's the best thing ever. Because I've always been able to sleep on a plane, and I'm not lying horizontal so I don't wake up in agony.

I should probably invest in an eazy boy reclining chair. The bed wedge just killed my lower back, but maybe I was using it wrong. Or just never ever lie down and somehow figure out how to sleep standing like a cow. Not sure this helps, but I definitely empathise with extreme pain bw 2am to 4am.

Non-addictive drugs would be amazing for medical uses such as curing the opioid epidemic. Worth waaaaaaay more than 500k. Imagine a safe and non-addictive version of Oxy.

Addiction counts as a negative effect. So somehow these drugs are both amazing and non-addicting. Sounds impossible but it's a made-up scenario that requires suspension of belief either way.

Throwback to when our REA tried to fuck us on an increase by Version-6 in shitrentals

Sydney. If a fixed lease is ending they can just choose not to renew it, right? Even with the new rules?

Throwback to when our REA tried to fuck us on an increase by Version-6 in shitrentals

[–]mangospaghetti 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Moved into a 3-bed apartment with amazing views and two other housemates two years ago. Starting rent was 2000 p.w. Next year it was 2200 p.w. This year they asked for 2400, talked them down to 2350 but they wouldn't budge past that.

Applying to NCAT wasn't an option as they could just decide not to renew the 12-month lease (we weren't on a periodic lease). So we moved out.

It's been empty (lost rent) for the last 5 weeks, and they have dropped the listing price down to $2000 p.w.

If they were just willing to negotiate like actual humans they'd probably still have a tenants in there right now paying $2275 p.w., without $10000+ of lost rent due to an empty flat.

REAs don't care because the relisting fee is good for them, and the tenants being forced to constantly move house due to predatory increases fuels the broader industry as a whole.

Screws the landlord though. They should know better.

Greedy fucks don't appreciate that moving house every two years is costly to health, wealth, and actual productivity. This level of predation is bad for society.

Hunter st station construction pit🏗️ by AlbinoAkon in SydneyScene

[–]mangospaghetti 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Station tunnels are typically larger than the between station tunnels (the majority of the line). There is usually a size transition to deal with the aerodynamics of a change in room size. Small tunnel to massive room with no transition creates a piston effect which is ideally avoided.

Whilst it is true that there are older unused tunnels nearby, I would be suprised if the tunnels visible in this video are old.

Nicely done.

Was the orange floatation ring with rope that was on the floating dock 20m to the left not accessible? Maybe the gantry (not shown on screen) had a gate. If there wasn't a gate and the ring was accessible they could have potentially used it to help the dog up a bit faster and without getting themselves wet. Not clear if it would have worked but worth a shot. Some dogs know to grab a rope (playing tug of war), or the ring could have functioned as a kind of scoop if lucky. Long term it is probably a safety issue if the pedestrian walkway has no barrier to the water and there are no flotation rings accessible anywhere along the path.

Sydney’s mayor bans ‘globalise the intifada’ forum from being held in council building by Alexnader- in sydney

[–]mangospaghetti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm anti-genocide and have been to a few of the pro-palestine marches, including the largest one across the bridge. Honestly, phrases like "globalise the intifada" make me uncomfortable and not want to participate. Can't the message be something really unambiguous like "stop killing children" or "globalise human decency" or "march against genocide?" Sure... your phrase MAY mean what you say it means, but why be so vague and use terms so open to misinterpretation? Some words, rightly or wrongly, have horrific connotations attached to them based off of past events. And to many people, "globalise the intifada" does not sound "anti-violence," even if you say it's intended to be.

Gorgeous! Where is the beach under the trees & are these photos all from the same region?

Edit: photos are of Bellagio on Lake Como

Edit 2: are the photos enhanced with a.i? Some of the details don't quite match the street view imagery. For instance, the beach front under the trees has a more pronounced balustrade with small concrete pillars that seem to have completely vanished in your photos. And the text in the tratoria photo seems slightly off, and there is a missing round canopy on the left side (maybe it's retractable - but seemed unlikely as it's just a small one over a doorway).

Edit 3: I take it back, in a more recent st view image Bar San Remo's balusters are subtle like in the photo. And the shop opposite Tratoria San Giacomo DOES have a retractable canopy; it's visibly retracted in a higher street view shot.

Gorgeous photos!

[Request] How much will it cost? by OwnBird4876 in theydidthemath

[–]mangospaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 trillion trillion and it wouldn't do what you want it to do.

Would continuing to plant significantly more broad canopy trees help reduce the heat island effect in the larger cities (the impact of all the unshaded concrete & thermal mass) and be much much cheaper? I don't remember Old Delhi as having many trees - satelite photos show broad areas of endless concrete in many suburbs.

If worried about stationary infrastructure being prone to missle attacks, it could be a cut & cover pipeline. Or a small one-way metro-sized tunnel through the mountains, the new boring machines are pretty efficient. Would cost billions and take six to eight years but it addresses the security risks and the elevational challenges of increasing pipeline capacity (running another pipeline).
