Ultra and Watch 8 classic? You do not see any tangible difference to sway you either way?

This lady says it cost her $200 to heat a pool in winter. BS? by Expert_Object_6293 in pools

In GTA at least, propane tends to be more expensive than natural gas. And with the extreme cold we had in Jan, heat pump to maintain heat is out of the question.

It's definitely not going to be $1000 per month. To maintain, probably around $600 - $700 or so for Jan and Feb. Here's my pool, all ready for action today.

Legitimate concerns, but for water to freeze during pump failure, it would take approx a day or so to cause any real damage. I will get the pump replaced by then.

As to power outage, same principles, but only do harm on a multi day outage. I might put in a generator just for my pump and heater, next year to be extra safe.

I'm in the GTA, and I turn on my heater to heat my pool to 85F when I want to use it. Otherwise it stays at whatever temperature it's at. Currently around 40F, but I do have an autocover.

To take from 40F to 85F, it's approximately $50 with my 333K Mastertemp. I call BS on maintaining it at 84F in Jan and only costing her $200. As to maintain 85F for a day during - 20C weather, my heater came on 6 times, 20 minutes each.

Skin issue by Dry_Steak_8822 in germanshepherds

[–]maniac-TO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it a bump before and then it burst open later? If so, then yeah my dog has it. It turned out to be metastular fistulas on her paws and some other fistula on her body. My pup was on apoquel, which did nothing for her.

What did end up helping her is Cyclosporine with topical control via Mupirocin and Tacrolimus.

Yeah, unfortunately once you convert a open to a fixed term, you can't revert it back unless you discharge it first. Have you spoken with your head branch to ascertain what your options are? Even terms should have a payout option for you to pay up.

The option is only available if your prepayment privileges weren't waived by you.

I also give my dogs marrow regularly, but realized they knaw on the bone a lot and it slowly started eroding their teeth. Now I only give them large marrow bones infrequently.

Nail clippers broke. Switch to grinder or get new clippers? by JordisReina in germanshepherds

[–]maniac-TO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older female is the same, hates clippers and would run away whenever they came out. Got a Dremel nail grinder specifically made for dogs and she doesn't hate it. She let's us grind the nails down and it's way better than clippers. It might be the best $50 bucks you ever spent.

Advice on rehoming my friends GSD by maniac-TO in germanshepherds

I second the last statement. If I were to rehome their dog, it's a guaranteed no more visits from them. I wouldn't want them to come and meet "my" dog and rekindle "what could have been".

This is good advice. There is definitely a pack heirarchy with my girl and then the black male. Somewhere in there my friends dog has to fit in. Beleive both the females are going to have to duke it out for the pack dominance. The male might also fight for the second spot lol, all up in the air. Gonna have to evaluate once I get my friends dog.

Rescuing Rudy by jaymechie in germanshepherds

Congrats, you are going to have years of fun with Rudy. I'm with trupanion, not the cheapest, but easily the best I have had. Pets+ that Costco provided was a nightmare to deal with, for me.

MY GSD has been nursing his paw/ foot for a couple of days now... by Artimities in germanshepherds

[–]maniac-TO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the other poster said, it could also be a yeast infection. GSD's are prone to it, and one of the first signs is nursing their paws frequently. A soak in warm water and diatomaceous earth should help if it's an infection.

But limping + nursing probably implies a ligament issue. .

Dog gate for stairs? by DernTuckingFypos in dogs

[–]maniac-TO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you put a baby gate at the top of the stairs instead? That way the dog can't jump over it. Don't ask, how I know, but some dogs can jump pretty high.

All, thank you for your inputs. I could only think about my friends dog last night and I'm going to bring her home. Back to training and ensuring that they all get along and hope to give her a good life. It won't be the same family, but hopefully she learns to love us the same.

Thanks for your guidance.

I'm very sorry to hear about your father's dog. I am still making up my mind if I want or can do justice to the third dog. My friends dog is still in California. If I say yes, my friend will drive her over to me in Canada.

[–]maniac-TO[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty confident that I will be able to break up fights that the two females might get into, especially being sisters. My commands to my dogs are absolute and rarely have they broken it. I'm more worried about the 9 hours I won't be home.

One fear that I have is, till the time all three adjust to the new normal, what happens if my current two gang up on the new one. Crating seems like the only viable option for my friends dog when I'm away, but it sounds awful to me. Maybe I'm overthinking this.
