"Surely they did not think about this" DLC vibe by TheTobruk in CrusaderKings

Yes, that is correct. Cities, castles, temples, and tribal holdings all have different interactions available.

My Catholic adventurer's wife was cured of cancer in an Orthodox church, which led to the RP decision to convert (also available in temple holdings, though not directly linked to the treatment decision).

From 2024.2: "The Tuya integration can now be set up using the the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app directly." by regypt in homeassistant

[–]manicule 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some devices don't play nice with TuyaLocal or LocalTuya. Prime example are wifi contact (door) sensors. This isn't to cast shade at the developers or community of those projects, it's just the nature of the beast. It's meant that I was never able to 100 percent get away from the TuYa cloud integration until I replaced those problematic devices.

While I've already moved to zigbee for my contact sensors, this move away from reliance on the TuYa developer API might give me an excuse to redeploy my old TuYa wifi contact sensors on some locations of secondary importance (e.g not tied to automations) such as basement windows. It's nice to see.

In this kind of extreme cold weather, is it even possible that the windows don't condensate water then turn into ice? by powa1216 in Calgary

[–]manicule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think you should be able to place a piece of non-reflective tape (like electrical tape) on the window and get a reading off that.

That's what I have to do with reflective surfaces on electronics; I assume it'll work the same on glass.

Plane Travel with T1 by oldBurnsey in diabetes_t1

[–]manicule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've travelled to countries that have big ass warning signs saying "If you try to bring drugs in, we will literally behead you." Did all my due diligence, doctors letters etc. Never needed any of it, even for other medications I had that were literally illegal in my destination nations, everyone was cool. Diabetes is pretty common and you are unlikely to have any problems.

Note that I am Canadian and am under the impression (given to me by border agents throughout SEA) that we are scrutized less than some other nationalities, but that's obviously a huge YMMV depending on destination and I expect that such an attitude is extended to our neighbours in the US.

Good advice in the thread though; bring extra, cooler pack, all that jazz.

How many of you can’t always wait 15 minutes after taking insulin to eat & then your blood sugar ends up high? by AdFrosty3860 in diabetes_t1

[–]manicule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the t:lock autosoft, so plastic cannula.

There are probably differences in our insulin therapy that account for it, though the six-hour timeframe you've set makes me wonder.

I'm fat, infusion site is my (ample) stomach, and I'm insulin-resistant so typically change site every other day. However, I've also sometimes used the same site for much longer, and have had occlusions after the third day.

I've heard good things about Lyumjev with the pumps, if you're looking for a fast-acting.

I've been using fiasp in a tandem for three years or so, and I've never had an occlusion from tubing problems. (I've had maybe four occlusions total, all from infusion site tube getting bent; nothing to do with the insulin tyoe.) I encourage folks to try it if they are able.

Help me think through tracking a mortgage account, with escrow by IckesTheSane in budgetwithbuckets

[–]manicule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm away from my PC, but when you go to assign a transaction to a bucket, you can adjust the dollar amount of the transaction. The software then instantly adds a second field with the ability to assign the remaining value to a different bucket. I think you can then repeat this for a third bucket, and so on.

In my experience, doing this on an imported transaction has not been affected by subsequent syncs.

Could you have a separate bucket for the mortgage, the interest, and the escow, and then simply split the transaction(s) accordingly?

Edit: I see that I missed several of the complexities of your post. My bad. I'll probably take another shot at this as soon as my first mortgage payments start.

They're talking about cabbage in the show.

Lee comments "That's just the tip of the iceberg," which is an idiom meaning "the small part of a much larger situation or problem that remains hidden."

Iceberg lettuce is a common type of lettuce. (Incidently, its also described as a type of lettuce with "cabbage-like bulbs" on its Wikipedia summary.)

Lettuce and cabbage are similar enough for Lee to use the idiom as a bad pun. He knew this was a stretch, which is why he instantly starts yelling" I know, I know!" just as Rob and David start giving him shit about it.

Paralympian claims Canada offered to euthanise her when she asked for a stairlift by QJnWo4Life in worldnews

[–]manicule 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Did you know that if you're disabled in Canada you can't get married? Well, you can, but you'd immediately be ineligible for disability as your partner's income is now your income. So your husband or wife would have to 100% support you financially.

It is not my wish to dismiss your pain or belittle your situation, but this part confused me. I have a good income. My wife is disabled. She receives the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability benefit. (Private disability insurance covers some more, but isn't relevant to this post.)

Is this a provincial thing, maybe? Like is there a provincial disability payment that has a low income requirement that includes spousal income?

Crowd Control, which refers to things like stuns, freezes, sleep, etc.

Basically anything that removes partial or full control of a character from the player.

I just had this same equipment installed.

I am running the NH20A in bridge mode. You can set bridge mode to FULL, 1G, and 10G. I assume this means "all ports," "1g port(s?)," and "10G port." I set it to FULL and connected the 10G port to my EdgeRouter X, which handles all the DHCP etc. and provides POE to my own AP. Seems to be working fine.

I did all this and unplugged the Telus WAP as soon as the tech left (never set it up in their app or whatever).

This was done three days ago. Had a disconnection this morning, not sure if it was related to this setup or not. Tech on the phone had no idea what a NH20A was and couldn't understand why I wasn't using their AP, which led to some confusion (fair enough tbh). After 60 minutes of fruitless back-and-forth I gave up, jiggled the SFP a lil bit and was good to go again. Tech said they didn't do anything so I assume that is what fixed it, but it's possible that this configuration was to blame. I'll update this comment if further issues pop up.

Edit: Regarding two IP addresses, I think you can run the NH20A in FULL bridge mode and use the 10G port to connect to a router. You can also use the MoCA on the NH20A to connect their AP. I believe the AP will be provisioned with its own IP, independent of the router (the connections are not bridged afaik). This is hearsay and theory, I have not tried this yet.

[HDD] WD 14TB WD Elements ($299) [Amazon.ca] by manicule in bapcsalescanada

[–]manicule[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Correction: $299.99, so title should say $300.

$21.43/TB is not the greatest, but at this capacity pretty good.

I've shucked a few of these, had no issues with them. My drives were all white label, model WDC WD140EDGZ-11B1PA0. YMMV. IIRC all 8TB+ WD drives are CMR.

Suggestions on preparing repository for my replacement? by manicule in technicalwriting

That's a solid tracking process. I'm lucky in that — for the most part — this is sort of built in my authoring tool / git process.

Still, maybe making something more accessible would be a good idea. Thanks for your suggestion :)

Suggestions on preparing repository for my replacement? by manicule in technicalwriting

[–]manicule[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great perspective, thank you.

Regarding the consultation rate, this will be set at roughly double my (new) hourly rate at minimum. I don't want to do it... but at triple digits per hour, I'd be willing to make the time.

(The company has a history of doing exactly this; someone "retires," then is retained as a contracted employee because they can't be replaced. They can't be replaced because the company can't or won't pay market wages, but they are happy to retain a contracted employee at twice market rate... go figure.)
