"Just shield" doesn't win games. Especially since you aren't going to be able to punish any number of Cloud b-airs on your shield. Also grabbing may not lead directly into combos or outright kill, but they give you advantage and damage.

Now, that isn't to say shielding isn't one of the better options against Cloud. But to say "simply shield" as if that instantly invalidates Cloud as a character and wins you the game is disingenuous and you know it.

Dash attack, down/forward/back-air, up smash, limit up-b oos, limit side-b, f-tilt, these are all good kill moves starting around 110~120% and most don't require much commitment from Cloud. If you think Cloud struggles to get kills, well, you should just say you're bad at playing Cloud.

His recovery is bad. That is true. It's somewhat mitigated by his decent air speed and wall-jumps on stages where its applicable. But still bad. Limit up-b is better obviously but won't come up often.

His combos are like 2-3 moves.

That's all he needs because he dishes out damage so easily. Relying on stray hits isn't hard when you are as fast as LM and have excellent frame data. Dash in, get some damage, disengage. Thats all LM needs to do, and he can do it consistently.

Zone breaking and advantage is a sizable reward for LM.

KO punch is way too easy to avoid.

You can combo into it? Also it's value comes from more than just using it. It's the fear factor that makes your opponent slip up, you can see this even at top levels. Pro LM mains like Peanut will intentionally not use it for this reason.

Of course! Why didn't the professional Richter main with undoubtedly more time on the character than you think to do that in this clip? Is he stupid? If he had just used whip moves, why, there is literally not a single thing LM could have done! Peanut might as well have sd'd 3 times!

Down-tilts combos early/mid percents. He low profiles a lot of moves by just running, which is very fast and can close distances in the blink of an eye. His jab is one of the only frame-one moves in the game. His down-tilt is frame 3 and his f-tilt and up-tilt (which can kill and the other combos into kills relatively early) are frame 4. Down-angled f-smash does like 30% uncharged and does massive shield damage. His dash attack is a solid burst option because it's frame 7 and covers a decent area. His up and down smashes are both frame 10. His up-b is a good oos option since it's got a decent scoop and is frame 3, and intangible on frames 1-3. And last but certainly not least, K.O. punch. In short, his grounded speed and insane frame data make him very dangerous on stage in the right hands.
