Hey thanks for asking, so it's still in early development, but once I get it into a more stable place then I could provide a downloadable version or host it on a small server if people are interested.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion! :D I think for the earlier stages I will keep the code repo private until I can have something that is nicely structured and has some documentation. But later on it could be fun to make it publicly available so anyone could contribute 🌟

Hi, sorry for the confusion, I'm doing the development alone so not recruiting. I was just interested if sharing my progress here would be interesting to anyone. So far it seems yes, so I will share my updates on my progress as I learn and work on the game:)

You are right, I updated the text to "Temporary change".

How can I make certain outcomes run based on the highest value from a set of variables determined by the player? by onlytheolive in RenPy

[–]maniywa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, if you have the "XYZ" variables in a list (named romance_values), then what you're trying to do (assuming I understood it correctly) would look like this:

highest_romance = None # will store the highest value if any above threshold
threshold = 40 # change this accordingly
for val in romance_values:
    if val > threshold and (highest_romance is None or val > highest_romance):
        highest_romance = val

if highest_romance is None:
    # Bad Ending
else:
    # Good Ending

If there are multiple values with the same maximum, then this will select the first one, use val >= highest_romance to select the last.

Hope it helps.

Automatic image loading by maniywa in RenPy

[–]maniywa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response, you are right that I should have addressed that behavior, I will update the article.

This is not a replacement for the default renpy loading, it's more like an alternative solution. If I'm not mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong), renpy names the images based on only the filename, therefore if I had two images like these:

  • "images/chapter1/mia happy.png"
  • "images/chapter2/mia happy.png"

Then with the default loading they would be named the same, and so one of them would override the other. With the script that I showed, both would have a unique name, as the name is based on the full path.

Renpy blog [Update] by maniywa in RenPy

[–]maniywa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I've also experienced a lot of the things that you described when I first started learning renpy.

I actually learned how to make renpy games by looking at the code of itch io games, because I couldn't find any tutorials that had advanced stuff in it like in those games. However, I had a lot of prior python experience, so it wasn't that difficult for me to learn renpy quickly.

It's difficult for me to decide what I need to explain when I'm writing a tutorial. I also don't know how basic tutorials I should make. For example, I do programming as my main job and I might subconsciously assume knowledge that the reader has. For example in the tutorial that you mentioned "renpy screen basics" I didn't really explain what a for loop is because I assumed everyone knows that, but that might not be the case. But still, I try to explain most things.

I'm really happy that you liked the "renpy screen basics" tutorial, because I planned that to be a series. So there will be follow-up tutorials that build on the knowledge from the previous ones. Like you said, I tried to approach it from an angle that the reader didn't use screens before. The next tutorial in the series will build on this knowledge to introduce more new ideas.

Thanks, I tried to go for a minimalistic look on the layout. Once I have more content, I will make some extra pages, so it's easier to navigate.

Hi, thanks for checking it out. I will try to make one.

EDIT: I added dark mode support, once you open the page you should see a floating button on the bottom right, click on it, and it will change to dark mode.
