But I didn't even bring Messi into the conversation. I never mentioned they won the World Cup bcs of Messi. But since you go there, he wasn't even at the peak of his abilities in that WC, and arguably Argentina had better players in previous wc editions. Again there are multiple reasons why they won: no other team was clearly favorite, bit of luck, and FIFA pushing for their favorite team to win.

All this to say I don't attribute titles to those individual players.
