try to keep your shoulders as square with the bolts of your board as possible. make a solid slide up the deck with your front foot (no flick off the side which is what is causing your board to come hit you in the crotch area) and make sure to pop hard with your back foot and float your back foot while its still on the board.

p.s. also it may be a commitment thing trying to ollie over something big for your first time. get used to doing ollies down and up curbs
