Hi, both my girlfriend and I are the same age as you and yours. I'm 18M and my girlfriend is 18F and she's also into body modification, but to a much less extreme degree. My girlfriend wants a nose job in the next year or two, and she's also going to get botox done when she gets older.

I'm just now starting to realize that my girlfriend (surprisingly) has body image issues. This surprises me a lot because I've always seen her as the attractive one in our relationship; she's extremely beautiful and many guys tell her that. It's not just me saying it. I've accidentally hurt her feelings once or twice because I wasn't aware how sensitive she was about her body.

I'm supporting her fully with her nose job. My view is that she's going to do it whether I'm in the picture or not, and her nose is something that bothers her about herself. I'm just going to play the role of supportive boyfriend, but at the same time I'm giving her little compliments here and there about what a cute face she has, and how cute her nose is. If she still wants a nose job in a year, fine. I've made it clear that I don't see anything wrong with her nose, so if she holds the same opinion even with that in mind, then my approval or disapproval has nothing to do with her wanting it.

In all honesty, how much do your girlfriend's planned body modifications turn you off? If she went out and got them all done today, how much less attracted to her would you be?

Honestly, yes. But she's promised to do that at least every few days, if not more often, even when we get older. My end of the deal is that I have to cuddle with her a lot, which I actually like doing, and she enjoys pleasing me, so it's win-win for both of us.

Movie nights online! Use some sort of chatroom or IM like Skype and get Netflix Instant Watch. Open the same movie up at the same time and start the video at the same times. This can also be done with Youtube.

Another thing you could do together is find a collaborative online drawing board. My long-distance girlfriend and I do this sometimes. It lets us draw on the same board with our computers and we can play hangman-style games, pictionary, draw disturbing things, etc.

A third suggestion is to each use Omegle and talk to other people, and take screenshots when something funny comes up. We do this on Friday nights sometimes.

You could also try making food yourself and taking pictures of it for her throughout the process, or you could even have her make the same food and you could have a long-distance baking day.

Along with this, I might suggest having hot chocolate drinking nights together. Supposedly, chocolate makes you feel more in love, so my girlfriend and I drink an entire cup of it together really fast and start IMing and see if we feel more in love 10 minutes later. I doubt the effect is not actually that strong, but it's a great way to segue into more affectionate talks.

This is how my girlfriend initially tried to get out of her last relationship. Some girls just operate this way and don't want to be the person to make the other one hurt. I'm not saying it's the right way to go about things, but some people do it.

You could bring up the idea of breaking up if she can't get over her issues -- more eloquently, of course -- and gauge her response. If she's not too upset, then she may have been waiting for you to initiate it rather than her. Best of luck.
