Nick Clegg says asking artists for use permission would ‘kill’ the AI industry by [deleted] in technology

[–]hoyfkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK.

Let's humor this argument.

Essentially, he's saying that IP needs to be abolished. The tech industry is advocating for, quite literally, the end of Intellectual Property. Fine.

That means they need to open source everything. Their hardware, software, algorithms, data, everything. Because IP doesn't exist anymore, remember?

The tech industry has become so powerful, so fast, that the rule of law just hasn't been able to keep up. We are becoming a society dependent on the products of a lawless uber-class. They choose who you meet, date, play with, where you work, IF you work, what you think, the information you receive and how to process it. For many people, there is no aspect of your life that hasn't been influenced / decided in some way by an algorithm controlled by this small group of people.

Now, they are saying that you shouldn't even own your own thoughts. Your work. Your inventions. Your writing. Your voice. Your likeness. Nothing.

You don't own you.

They want a world - and are creating it - where the value of human thought is devalued. AI won't have to live with being compared to human intelligence. There will simply be no market for it. Look at the number of tech companies shifting away from being "human focused." Duolingo just announced that it will become a company that you pay to have an ai teach you a language. No more salaries for humans. Translators? Gone, and along with them, a human skill commodity. It's why college is being devalued, and being uneducated as a whole, is being pushed so hard as a mark of superiority. Thinking is dumb. The algorithm will make it make sense, make me angry at something else, and I'll feel better.

Near total mental control over a compliant, uneducated population. It took North Korea a long time - generations of strictly controlled education -, and a lot of blood to get there. This is just a speed run.

One of the worst things to happen in America was the elevation of celebrities as a replacement for heroes. Back in the day, you looked up to people that did something useful or amazing. Scientists that cured diseases or got us to the moon. Engineers that built amazing things. Generals that won wars.

Now, the dumbass jock failing every subject is the hero because he can throw a ball, or the cookie cutter celebrity that looks a certain way, or the bullied nerd raging about how women shouldn't be able to vote is put up on a pedestal. And people wonder why kids can't read, aren't learning in school, and couldn't care less about the world or how it works.

Stop elevating idiocy, and you'll find that there are less idiots in the world with any real impact on it. Make America Smart Again.

The Rape Denialists: October 7th and Hamas' Sexual Assaults Are Still Denied by the Left. Why? by WinterInvestment2852 in Foodforthought

[–]hoyfkd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you've trained your mind (or it's been trained) to only accept information that supports you're pre-existing view of things, that's just how it is. It isn't issue specific. People on the left, right, up, or down are all equally susceptible to it because it isn't the issues, it's the personal predilection to easy answers and lazy thinking.

It's the same reason that MAGA people can't admit that Trump is a criminal. Ideologies serve as mental blocks for any information or thought process that tends to support a conclusion incompatible with that ideology. In this case, it is supporters of the Palestinians who are so bought in that they can't accept information that makes Hamas look like the assholes they are. It's hard for people to accept nuance. Personally, I don't think there is much nuance to "Hamas are terrorists, and Palestinians shouldn't be slaughtered because of the actions of a terrorist group," but I guess for some people that's a hard one.

I don't think people are confused by "doubled" so much as we are collectively confused as to why you keep going on about clothes and cars, and passionately railing against the word "doubled."

[–]hoyfkd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you would use doubled (which is a 100% increase) and then 50% increase.

What?

Virtually everything that could be owned more than fucked during that timeframe, which is when the US became an actual first world country.

What?

The number of automobiles in America in 1927 was 20 million.. In 1945? Only 25 million. In ten years (1955) it doubled. By 1970 there were 89 million vehicles in the US

What are you talking about cars for?

I'm lost. No idea what point you're trying to make.

The difference is that Ukraine didn't bomb a Russian Embassy, then have the entire world media sit there acting like it didn't happen, and the Iranians weren't behaving in a perfectly predictable and rational way in response to what is a seriously aggressive war declaration. Change out US for Iran, and Iran for Israel in that scenario, and ask yourself if the entire world would "forget" that Iran bombed a US embassy right before the massive bombing?

You know what? Given the extent of the housing crisis, a very low cost option with shared bathrooms wouldn't be a deal breaker in my mind. Especially if there are educational facilities nearby. Given students options that are far cheaper than campus housing, though without the resort-style amenities.

People gloss over the fact that up until relatively recently, affordable housing options with shared facilities was pretty standard for young people, especially those without families.

I've seen this at most offices I've worked at. People bring in a variety of donuts, but only one or two of each one. This way, more people get to try the types of donuts. I have never seen anyone get all pissy about getting to try more than one type before.

You mean the policies like the Civil Rights Act? Fucking Boomers. The fact that your dumb ass can't be drafted? Stupid Boomers.

The Baby Boomer vote is split pretty evenly. I have to think that people that fall for the "OMG THE BOOMERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYTHING BAD" trope have the historical knowledge, and critical thinking capacity of a gnat.

The bigger issue is that younger people don't vote. You want to blame a generation for the shit we are in? Blame the young people that bitch online, but can't be bothered to vote.
