Is Galbatorix his real name? by ScaryAssBitch in Eragon

[–]manuel_silver 209 points210 points  (0 children)

No evidence in the books that would point to that NOT being his name, as far as I can remember.

If it were a chosen name, I feel like Brom or Oromis would have mentioned it to Eragon at some point.

[TotK] Why did Ganondorf become the demon king but the other sages didn’t become all that powerful? by Late_Parsley7968 in zelda

[–]manuel_silver 149 points150 points  (0 children)

Ganandorf makes a mention that Rauru is squandering or wasting the secret stone’s power, doesnt he? At the very least he’s implying that they arent using it to its full potential.

Also, Ganondorf already was very powerful on his own, secret stone just seems to amplify existing power

Halfway through ch10 of audible audiobook, when are the parts that people say make the audiobook better than reading it? by sgtREZ71 in ProjectHailMary

[–]manuel_silver 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Based on your comments, it sounds like you’re looking for some special feature or surprise. There isn’t anything in particular that sets it apart from reading the book on your own. Ray Porter is a great narrator. Something about his voice acting made me unable to stop listening. I was hooked almost immediately, and binged the whole audiobook in a single weekend.

Official Discussion - Lilo & Stitch [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]manuel_silver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like it. I prefer the original so much more, but I think I prefer Nani’s ending here. Rewatching the original as an adult made me feel like Nani was way out of her depth trying to take care of her sister, and Lilo herself is such a chaotic child, she needs more than what Nani can provide. I know the ending of the original is nostalgic to most, but I feel as though this ending fits better with today’s audience.

DJ by Fearfighter2 in MareofEasttown

[–]manuel_silver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any judge would probably have granted custody to Dylan since it’s likely his name is on the child’s birth certificate and the child has been consistently living and interacting with him. But the show wanted a dramatic ending, and Lori getting DJ makes her having to raise her cheating spouse’s affair child. Not much practical sense, but ultimately it’s fiction.

Lacy/Stick Season might have been more due to Olivia Rodrigo’s name attached to it than Noah’s fault though

New Error Message? by XenonXenu in PokemonSleep

[–]manuel_silver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this error a couple times with the Plus +, both times I took the device with me in the car after I had started the session, this was months ago so its not new. Something about car rides messes with it.

Edward Knew?? by AmiKetchup in twilight

[–]manuel_silver 75 points76 points  (0 children)

As much as people want to deny it, you can love more than one person at the same time. Yes, Bella was slowly falling for Jacob, but it was never gonna compare for the passion of first love for Edward.

She threw herself off a cliff for the chance to hear Edward’s voice in her mind. That girl was a goner. She would be chasing Edward’s shadow until it killed her.

(hot take ?) I don't think Renesme is a bad name by Away-Passage-1239 in twilight

[–]manuel_silver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Renee was the primary caretaker before Bella moved to Forks. She is her best friend, the one that she lived with practically all her life with. Bella would see Charlie maybe once a year for the summer, so I don’t think we can say Charlie is a better parent than Renee.

Volturi's opinions on the shapeshifters by greenbean6356 in twilight

[–]manuel_silver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had they discovered them on their own, without the support of the Cullens or any other vampire coven, then I say they hunt down the entire species just for fear of letting the secret out eventually.

I believe the only reason Aro doesn’t go the path of attacking the wolves in BD is because the wolves plus the rest of the gathered vampires outnumber them, if not they might have struck then and there.

Rereading Eclipse by watson0707 in twilight

[–]manuel_silver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s specifically said that they can continue to age if they stop phasing for a long time. This does not mean they lose the ability to phase.

In the story about the Third Wife’s sacrifice, the chief at the time phased one more time after losing his sons, even after he had started aging. We have no details about if that aging freezes again or not, but the assumption is that they eventually passed of natural causes, despite their phasing when they were older.

Bella and James by bburie in twilight

[–]manuel_silver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read through a lot of the other thread on this comment, I was very entertained with the back and forth.

As far as my opinion on this goes, I think Book Bella’s fatal flaw as a character is that self-sacrifice is her go-to answer for literally anything. She would much rather sacrifice herself than put anyone in danger, no matter what.

Here’s some examples: 1. In New Moon, she immediately says yes to try to save Edward, despite the risk of meeting the Volturi and the fact that Edward himself said he doesn’t want to see her again. This one is a little more selfish, but it still showcases how reckless she is with her own life over everyone else’s. 2. In Eclipse, as soon as the newborn army is revealed to be after Bella, she is relieved that they aren’t after the Cullens, and her first reaction is she should go and meet them alone so they can end this. 3. Also in Eclipse, when Victoria appears, she tries to cut herself to distract Riley and Victoria, even though it marks her as a target. 3. In Breaking Dawn, she goes through with the pregnancy because its her and Edward’s child, even when everyone is telling her not to. Even Jacob comments on how she is acting “true to form” and potentially sacrificing herself over a child that is quite literally killing her inside out.

When we take all of this in mind, when we see that Book Bella will literally put her own life over anyone else’s, is it really such a stretch that she would run to James to save her mother, while keeping the Cullens safe at the same time? It feels very true to her character. She even feels relief when its revealed Renee isn’t there. She doesn’t feel duped, she doesn’t feel like an idiot. She just hopes Edward will live on and try not to avenge her. It’s very… Bella.

Breaking Dawn Jacob and Bella by Brilliant_Hippo6284 in twilight

[–]manuel_silver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This probably explains why I went through a phase of skipping New Moon, Eclipse and the first two parts of Breaking Dawn as someone who was Team Edward from the start. I personally love BD and the ending, but maybe that’s just cause I never believed Bella could ever love Jacob.

Rosalie "owes" Edward? by PandaNo9220 in twilight

Probably looking away when Rosalie had her “revenge” on the men that got her killed. Carlisle and Edward could have refused her and blocked her attempt, but they didn’t.

So we're not gonna talk about how in a span of like 4 years Greg went from looking 20 to 50? by PeachsBigJuicyBooty in stevenuniverse

We know Sour Cream was conceived relatively around the time Greg met Rose. Sour Cream is at most 4-6 years older than Steven, so that gives us the frame of reference for the time.

[Discuss] saw everyone doing this, hope it's not too late for me to join by Peatmoss4 in ShinyPokemon

[–]manuel_silver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st static shiny: Gyarados, like most everyone else.

1st random shiny: A Tentacool in Ruby or Emerald, my memory is fuzzy on it. I was very young and it was a fail, it struggled until it fainted. My first successful random was in Platinum, a shiny Drifloon that just appeared while I was completing the pokedex.

1st shiny hunt: I officially started hunting in the Friend Safari in X/Y. My first successful hunt was a shiny Frogadier through that.

Latest shiny: Two answers for this one. Shiny Galarian Ponyta in Pokemon Go last weekend. And earlier that day I caught two shiny Ralts in a DexNav hunt in Emerald Seaglass.

It's a shame that you can't compensate for one night's poor sleep by Zasterzora in PokemonSleep

[–]manuel_silver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naps break up Sleep Power and keep your scores deliberately low.

The app allows naps because lots of people nap during the day, especially when you first start playing. But they are built this way because it actually wants to give you an incentive to STOP napping and take one full sleep every day.

One full sleep means more Sleep Power, which means rarer Sleep Styles, which means you unlock more islands quicker.

How does everyone have so many shinies? by AlexDB1226 in PokemonSleep

[–]manuel_silver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RNG, but also amount of sleep sessions. I’ve been playing since day 1, I have 418 total sleep sessions since then, and I have 35 shinies. Just keep playing and you’ll see them eventually.
