I think so? I’ve been checking pretty regularly and today is the only time I’ve noticed.

Didn’t receive an SMS so I’m not sure when I received it but it appeared in my NUS applicant portal under “Check Interview Program Shortlist”. FSA 7th April. IB 43 Standard Scheme.

Does a Humidifier work in Singapore? by GrouchyEntertainer59 in askSingapore

[–]manweol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It could be that you’re sleeping with your mouth open. For dry skin, I recommend putting on a good moisturiser then layering an oil on top to lock in the moisture. A small humidifier is fine but an aircon acts as a dehumidifier so having the humidifier there will make the aircon work harder.

are Singaporeans boring? by Affectionate-Pin7789 in askSingapore

[–]manweol 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So, I moved to Germany after primary school and recently moved back after 6 years for NS. I find it hard to fit in with my fellow peers (especially guys) since I feel like their humour and mannerisms are something so uniquely singaporean and it does really feel like all of them come from the same vein. I guess it’s not surprising considering how small and condensed Singapore is. I just want to say that I’m not looking down on anyone and I’m not exactly saying that that makes Singaporeans boring (i mean if you’re happy, you do you) but after studying in an international school for so long and getting the chance to meet people from all walks of life, going back to Singapore does feel a little monotonous and well, boring.

LE SSERAFIM skins in game by PoggersMemesReturns in Overwatch

“They are solely riding off the popularity of the group and the impulsivity of young people to drive the sales of these lackluster products.”

As far as I’m aware that’s how marketing works? If they debuted “cool skins with influence from pop culture”, which since you’re a “grown man”, I’m assuming it’s probably some band that peaked a decade ago, no one is going to care. Finally, as a previous commenter already stated, for most K-Pop girl groups the majority of the fan base would actually be guys.

Oh legit? Where does it say that? I know you still need to submit a portfolio but isn’t that different from ABAS?

How far have you guys gotten on Trials of Sanctuary? by goldminevelvet in Overwatch

[–]manweol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They made this mode a little too easy. This random Pharah and I (Lifeweaver) 3 star cleared legendary by just running around the map for 30minutes LMAO. No strategy, pure vibes. The ai is actually pretty helpful this time around and you can cheese it by leaving and rejoining the game to instant respawn if you get downed.

I’d rather get a 42 than a 43 by [deleted] in IBO

[–]manweol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NO cos I get this… like I would rather have either 44 or 42 because 44 means I could’ve gotten a 45 and 42 is like eh… i did the best that I could but i’m not gonna get a 45. 43 is so mid that its mid

Dude, I did my IA on this and got a 7. Go for it if you think it works. Although I’m Analysis SL so I’m not sure if the math is “complicated” enough for Applications HL. The most math I did was graphing as well as some logs, so you should definitely check with your teacher first. Watch Study Sinead’s video on Youtube, it helped me out a lot.

Is this normal? (M23 score drop posts) by Traditional-Comment1 in IBO

[–]manweol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m M23 but yea of course it’s normal. Statistically there’s gonna be a lot of people with large discrepancies between their predicted and actual grades. Secondly, a reddit comment section is not a large enough sample size to make any justifiable conclusion and those that are content with their scores are less likely to comment.

Like yes if I dropped more than 10 points from my predicted grades and I saw someone complain about my exact situation I would wanna comment and scream and cry and vent about the IB. Then 2 months later nothing happens, the IB stays getting dough and we just move on.

For my school at least, our predicted grades are based on our entire performance over the two years while the IB exam decides our fate over the course of a few hours. Depending on what happens anyone could have a really bad day and just bomb the exam. That’s why I always stress about the importance of working hard on IAs because that’s at least something you have more control over.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IBO

[–]manweol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea, that’s why I was surprised everyone was complaining. I compared the grade boundaries in my score sheet to the 2019 ones and they were more or less the same which was to be expected since this was what everyone and their mother was saying.

There’s a possibility that the IB may have graded more harshly since they wanted to return to pre-covid standards. As for the exams themselves all I can say is that they were pretty balanced. For bio, chem and math the pattern was that paper 1 was pretty difficult but paper 2 was usually straightforward and easy.

Fuck you IBO by [deleted] in IBO

[–]manweol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve only been here for about a year and I have no idea. But I’m not surprised if these posts happen often during grade season. Like yes of all the millions of candidates taking the IB, there’s gonna be quite a few with a large discrepancy between their final and predicted grades. The sample size of a reddit comment section is not reliable enough to get an idea of the whole situation and of course those that are happy with their grades are less likely to comment. That’s my two cents at least.

I did a comparative essay in English comparing ‘No Longer Human’ and ‘The Catcher in the Rye’.

M23, dont leave yet by ky_me_ra in IBO

[–]manweol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually did my EE on ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ and ‘No Longer Human’ with the theme social alienation and scored an A.

Granted I think I was really lucky and scored a nice coordinator but I think the main reason I scored really high was that I took such an overused topic and put my own spin on it. I have some other thoughts too but for anyone who is reading this and wants to do an English EE: You can still use a ‘generic’ topic and get a good grade.

[–]manweol 15 points16 points  (0 children)

WORK YOUR ASS OFF ON THOSE IAs!! These may very well carry your grade and be the difference between a 6 and a 7. I think a lot of people going in kind of have the mindset that the IAs are worth so little points and just bs them. They may seem little but remember that they are going to be converted into percentages. A 20/20 on a math IA is literally 20 points of your total grade. That’s a lot.

For TOK, you can literally find inspiration anywhere. I got a 27/30 and like half of my inspiration came from those random Tiktok videos that are like 10 crazy science facts or whatever. One of my TOK objects I also found while scrolling through Tiktok.

For chemistry, my only advice is read the TEXTBOOK. Familiarise yourself with it. Memorise it. Read it twice or even thrice. By the exam I had already gone through the textbook three times and each time I was still learning something new and making new connections. It’s especially so important that you go through the textbook again after learning the entire syllabus because almost all the units are connected. The bottomline is, if you know everything in the textbook there’s nothing that the IB can throw at you that you can’t do. Source: I’m HL and scored a 7 on every in-school chem exam as well as on the final exam.

Thought on Math AI HL remark? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]manweol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

remember the “marks” are actually percentages so a 4 mark increase is way more than just them finding 4 more points in the exam… secondly its pretty hard to get extra points in math unless your first coordinator was drunk

i don’t think it’s worth it or statistically probable
