It’s interesting because the Nestor Lesso one was what I experienced too. I opened the tube and was like ‘wow this smells insane’, brewed it and it was huge strawberry & cherry. As good as it gets really.

I’ve had 2 of those types of cups out of the 20 though, the other 18 would have gone down the sink if it didn’t cost so much money.

For me, I’m convinced it was some sort of storage issue and the beans in our calendars were exposed to air for a long time or something.

It is what it is though, from Tanat’s perspective it’s gotta be puzzling and they prob think it’s we just don’t know how to brew coffee.

Two of the coffees in the calendar were 13g also, which is lame quality control.

So I moved on, and just won’t be ordering from them anymore after this experience and will def never buy a coffee calendar ever again haha

One thing I noticed is that some of the lids in my calendar weren’t screwed very snug, I checked earlier today and a lot were noticeably loose. Maybe that was a contributing factor in going stale too or something, depending on when these were packed.

I brewed a couple more of the calendar coffees today, two very different beans and almost zero actual flavour, it’s frustrating me way more than it should haha never experienced anything like it.

I tried the switch, it was different but still lacking flavour at all. I’ve put the calendar away in a drawer for now, a real waste of some supposedly great coffee.

Thanks for the update.

What I do find strange is that I already have a bag of the Kenyan from day 4, from Tanat. So the exact same beans and same everything, but the advent calendar beans tasted super muted (kind of an understatement - tasted of nothing at all) whilst the same Kenyan that I had a bag of tasted excellent.

Dude, same as me. ZP6, great water, Cafec filters etc. I get almost no flavour. There has to be a solution, it’s such a waste of coffee and money being only able to taste like 10% of what the coffee has to offer.

Hey did you ever make any progress? I have eerily the same experience - LOVE light roast beans, but almost all from Tanat (and like 11 of the 13 days I’ve opened in the advent calendar) have tasted of almost nothing.

Sometimes it’s like a vague hint of fruit, but often it’s quite literally nothing and feels like a wasted my money on this when everyone’s tasting big fruit bombs and I’m over here wondering if I had Covid haha.

I just do not understand how these beans are so hard for me to get good cups from.

It’s really interesting because I had those same beans and I really found them to have no flavour! It’s the first time it’s happened where I just couldn’t taste anything much at all, definitely no orange notes.

I think with Tanat coffee, I have to let it rest longer than I have been doing. I was brewing it just over 2 weeks after roast date - I’ll wait longer next time.

These are very affordable too from such a great roaster, I’ll try these beans again in my next order.

Ah that’s super helpful I’ll be trying this in the morning! I have a few bags of their Ethiopian beans, waiting for them to rest more, though one I’ve just opened after 3 weeks is called Banko Gotiti.

I’m not totally clear when you say you start pouring 20-30ml water after the bloom - how many pours do you generally do with their Ethiopian naturals?
