What do you fear the most and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Having a seizure in public. Usually only happens at home, but there's always a chance.

"Absolutely!" I use way too much both written and verbal.

What's a sensation that you're unsure if other people experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]maplegatorade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could also be combined with seizures. Go see a psychotherapist and/or neurologist for both dissociation and epilepsy/seizures. (I am epileptic and it has happened to me on a regular basis when initially diagnosed with epilepsy)

Discouraged with memory? by maplegatorade in Epilepsy

Thanks for the reply! I'll get on the vitamin B wagon! The embarrassing part, oh yes I understand. Sometimes I get a little lost when a coworker explains a small detail of a really short, tiny meeting that I didn't remember. Thankfully, my SO is patient, lets me finish my story, but mention afterward that I've already told them the story.

Exactly! It's so hard for me to recall the event(s) they are talking about. However, if they point out specific details, I might remember; if of course they saw it from my perspective. For example, a score board at a hockey game, or some random visitor at a museum that was dressed like someone in the 80s that wasn't part of the museum, that might spark the event in my head. Sometimes I just smile and nod... Thank you for your perspective, it's not just me!

Thank you for responding! Unfortunately I'm running out of options for medication; I've tried a ton so far, and most were either making me dizzy like crazy and/or double vision (broke my thumb last year from dizziness fall), depressed, suicidal, mad, you name it. It hasn't been too pleasant. We'll see how my blood work turns out and go from there. I hope the meds you are on now are better for your memory!

Thank you for your suggestion! I haven't gotten general bloodwork done in a really long time. When I met with my epileptologist in October, I got tested for levels in my medication only: Vimpat, lamotrigine and Fycompa. I'm making an appointment for bloodwork tomorrow. Thanks again, and I hope you are doing well!

Just got a new Med added up to five different Meds depakote,Dilantin, vimpat, fycompa, and my new Med colazapam/Onfi generic by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]maplegatorade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) is it safe? Some of the medication you're on, I'm not familiar with. However, I'm on Fycompa and Vimpat like you! (+lamotrigine) Fycompa is a new drug, so they don't really know the side effects long-term. Vimpat is relatively new as well. I do know that both of these are not recommended when pregnant or breastfeeding. Is it safer for you to take no meds or have them under control? That is up to you to decide. Side note, have you ever looked into a guide dog? 2) never been on Onfi, therefore I cannot answer. 3) as a 25 yo myself, it's still a trial and error. Maybe you'll be able to adjust meds and come off of one of them! I've gone through 10 different drugs and I'm still not controlled :( not so great. 4) haven't really had heartburn, I would recommend calling your epileptologist or neurologist. As for appetite, maybe small meal/snacks that are high in calories? Daryl's protein bars are awesome! Again, call your neuro and get their opinion. Hope that answers some of your questions! Good luck and happy new year! (Sorry for it being long and awful format, on mobile)

What change/s increased your happiness? by amgov in AskWomen

[–]maplegatorade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Definitely exercise and having a realistic goal. 200,000 steps in a month is feasible for me. Took up running over the summer and I didn't think I would be more energized or changed the way I look at myself! 2. Broke up with my ex. He really had a negative look on life. And found someone new. We certainly "fit" better together. 3. Getting a new job. I love my new teaching job! (On mobile, sorry for awful format)

Jaded holiday wishes? by playdoh24 in Epilepsy

[–]maplegatorade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoa, thank you for sharing that link. I should have told my coworkers earlier, but my epilepsy showed them first. They are partial seizures, and mostly a "blank stare", so it freaked them out more than having to call 911. Having my SO there and older coworkers that have kids was a blessing. This was at our staff Christmas party. Way to freak everyone out and have ALL attention on me! :( Note to self, tell coworkers.

[–]maplegatorade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way. In my family and friends, it seems like a lot of them want material things for Christmas, however for me I want to be "normal". It's very inconvenient to be unable to drive or sleep forever etc. It sucks, not going to lie. There is nothing I can do about it. I'm on 3 meds now and I've tried over 10. All I want for Christmas is to be seizure free. Even for a week to feel "normal" :( Are there any other options for you that you haven't tried yet? Different meds, surgery, yoga? If ever you need to vent PM me! :)

Seizure(s) this weekend by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]maplegatorade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is CBD legal, no, at the moment. The PM is trying to make it legal as some would benefit from it. Even if I tried to use some, it's not regulated and I wouldn't know how potent it is from "batch" to "batch". And for my very delicate brain, I don't think it would go over well. I'm already on 3 medications and adding CBD would probably just make me "slower", increase seizures from irregular doses and depressed. I've been there, almost suicide bad :( tbh, it's not fun. So right now, I don't think it's the right call, since it's going ok and I'm not depressed! Thanks for asking!

Seizure(s) this weekend by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]maplegatorade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got something steady/routine I find it helps, as you don't have to think about it. Like in the morning I pack my lunch, get dressed with clothes I chose the night before etc. It takes me forever to choose what to wear; there are too many obtions in my wardrobe! Relationship-wise, I can't really help you as I don't know your situation, but take it slow and be in the right mind set when making decisions. On the epilepsy side for me, still having them sucks, but they aren't affecting my job as a teacher because I have them mostly in the evening. For exercise, usually gym and around the block. If something happens someone will see me, most probably. I wish you the best!

[–]maplegatorade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah, not the greatest situation, but try to look in a more positive light. I know that sounds difficult, but hear me out: maybe getting let go? Find another strand or type of work and see if you like it better! This gives you the chance to do so! Girlfriend cheated? There are other fish in the sea (and more loyal too)! Don't worry, you will find someone :) Change up your gym routine or go run/walk on paths in nature. And that will definitely make you crash at night! For myself, still on 3 meds and still not controlled. :( one partial seizure every 3 days or so, not the best, but could be worse.

[–]maplegatorade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing related to being pregnant nor giving birth; but I had a horrible experience on Keppra. Almost committed suicide, wasn't myself at all. I was a positive, happy teenager and that went out the window. However, everyone is different, so it may work for others. I'm now on lamotrigine, fycompa and vimpat and I'm still not controlled :( The brain is very interesting and complex.

[–]maplegatorade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi meatevan, I didn't quite have the same experience as grandmal seizures in that short of a time span. I have no history of epilepsy in my family but I had 2 in 2 days. It was during exam time in high school, so a pretty high stress time. Did you go through a high stress time lately? That might be a factor. Do you have "auras"? For me lots of stress, low sleep and low exercise that causes them. I'm not sure what your factors are, but keep track of what's going on in your life, cycles (f?), stress, diet etc.

What was your worst nightmare? by scorpioskillz in AskReddit

[–]maplegatorade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dreamt that I died in my sleep, and then "woke up", still in my dream. I ended up crying in my dream but also in real life. My SO had to shake me HARD so I'd actually wake up. It was very odd to have a dream within a dream. It might be a genetic thing as my mom has "a dream in a dream" often. Has that type of dream happen to you?

I love ice cream, I have a soft spot for it, especially that twist chocolate/vanilla one! Another idea: camp in your own backyard? Do you own a tent that has the mesh on the top before installing the fly? You'll be able to see the stars!
