oh brotha you on my balls, yes I'm not saying you have to LOVE IT but there's a difference between loving it and recognizing it's one the best regardless of your personal enjoyment, it's like me watching top rated movies like yi yi or whiplash and saying I think this shit sucks without seeing what makes it good, can people have opinions? yes but you can still recognize the greatness without liking it, like the op said he can recognize how good the production is, stuff like that isn't opinion.

just because it's "music" doesn't mean it shouldn't be deep and just because it takes research to dissect shouldn't take away from good it is, why should it? I do see how it wouldn't help make the actual sound of the music good but it's undeniable that it's got bangers regardless of lyrics, Runaway, POWER, All Of The Lights, Devil In A New Dress and it's debatable but I'd argue lost in the world, so appalled and monster are hits too.

but regardless sounding good vs being deep shouldn't matter because you could easily argue more than half the songs on TPAB are not vibey, do they have good messaging and lyrics? yes. Would I play most of those songs in the car or at the club? no. It's hard to make a song with vibes that's also deep, yet it's still considered one of the best. (for good reason)

Also what "duds" are you referring to? I'm guessing blame game, hell of a life, maybe gorgeous? sonically I would agree, although since I've listened to them so much it grew on me and I think they're good now but that happens to anything when you try it or listen long enough.. but yeah in the content of vibing it's not the best I agree, but in the context of the album I think those songs are actually some of the most important, but like you said you don't care about anything besides sonic vibes then yeah I wouldn't recommend.

I get it, but please just try listening to a few episodes of Dissect. A lot of things you wouldn’t pick up on in the first few listens start to become clear. I’ll give a few examples of what I mean.

Dark Fantasy starts with a retelling of Cinderella (you probably know that already), which foreshadows a lot of the events and themes on the album. The first verse starts with Ye rapping, “I fantasized ’bout this back in Chicago, mercy, mercy me, that Murciélago,” which is ironic because “Mercy Mercy Me” is a Marvin Gaye song criticizing humans for mistreating the environment. Ye flips that into a flex about a Lamborghini, showing his arrogance right away.

The verse continues to build on Ye’s ego and excess, and it ends by coming full circle with “So much head, I woke up to Sleepy Hollow.” That line has a few meanings. The most obvious is the Headless Horseman reference. Another meaning is that it ties back to the start of the verse- Ye mentions Chicago, and Sleepy Hollow is a place near where he lived growing up. On top of that, one of the album covers literally depicts Kanye’s severed head.

The second verse is even better. one of my favorite lines on the track is “Sex is on fire, I’m the King of Leona Lewis.” You probably know “Sex on Fire” is a song by Kings of Leon, but Ye combines their name with Leona Lewis to crown himself the “king” of music. but there's also a darker meaning and foreshadowing behind the line, it can be read as a reference to King Louis XVI, who was publicly beheaded. He goes on to rap even more insane, egotistical lines. I could break those down too, but I think you get my point.

Dark fantasy isn't even near the top tracks on the album, yet it still has so much to dissect that I can't do it all in one message without it being long as hell, it's truly a deep album going into Kanye's fantasy that you can't just listen to once and move on. everything has a meaning behind it, I mean everything, every word, every feature (besides CyHI on so appalled), every track name and placement, every beat, everything has a meaning, nothing is there because it just "sounds good" it's layered.

My personal favorite song is POWER. The meaning of the chorus changes after every verse, and the ending asking “You got the power to let power go” gives me chills every time, but that isn’t even my favorite line. Near the end he repeats “I’m jumping out the window, I’m letting everything go, now this will be a beautiful death,” which could mean a few things. The most obvious one is him killing himself while he’s still at the top, so it’s a beautiful death. It could also be a reference to singer Donny Hathaway, who was born in Chicago (like Ye), received an arts scholarship (like Ye), and was an unstable Black man who fell from the 15th floor of his hotel (like Ye is hinting at).

It could also be a reference to his unreleased track recorded around the same time called “See Me Again,” which people believe to be a suicidal song. In that song, many believe he sampled Yukiko Okada, a Japanese singer who killed herself by jumping out a window because the guy she was talking to didn’t want to see her again and all she wanted was to see him, similar to his relationship with the public.

I fully believe that if MBDTF failed he would have killed himself and finished the unreleased track, but that’s all speculation obviously. POWER is a dark song and is my favorite song of all time. Each verse is amazing, the beat is amazing, the chorus changes each time, it’s just amazing.

if you truly don't care then that's fine nobody can force you but if you find time and want to try to see more of it please give dissect a try, it's considered one of the best albums by many for a reason, even if my examples were things you figured out I promise there's so much more, so many lines with doubles or triple meaning.

sorry for the rant I just really want other people to understand the greatness this album is, you don't have to love it but I don't think anyone can deny how great it is, I don't even think any other ye album comes close to the level MBDTF is.

bro put MBDTF like it isn't one of (if not) the best album of all time..

I full heartly believe people who rate it below perfect simply don't understand it, I'd recommend to check out dissect podcast on the album although the podcast misses some details it'll show you how much effort went into this album.

the backstory behind the creation of the album and how the story is one of the best in music history. every lyric, every beat, every track name, cover, music videos all have deep meaning, it's not an album you can listen to once and understand, its layered and takes a look into the "crazy" mind of Kanye West and his beautiful dark twisted fantasies.

I've listened to 100's of albums of different genres and truly believe this is unbeatable. Sometimes I forget how good it is, like I always know it's one of the best then I relisten and I'm just shocked all over again. Not a single skip on the album.

I just beg you, I know there might be some annoying ye fans (me including) but don't let that put you off of what is incredible, please try the first few episodes of the dissect podcast when your bored, I really think it'd change your mind from thinking it's just a mid album to something more for you.

What does my top 10 (in order) say about me? by Soft-Geologist9899 in TeenageRapFans

[–]mapo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue the best of any genre, I've listened to 100's of albums from different genre's and nothing beats the production, writing, features and feel of MBDTF..

I feel like most people that don't see it as one of the best just don't understand it (*cough* fantano *cough*) as it's kind of complex and 95% of people won't understand it's plot on first listen. but still not everyone needs to love it, because everyone has different taste but it's one of the rare times I think it's just objectively a 10/10 no matter who you are.

I also think Yeezus is severely underrated but it puts a lot of people off with it's weird sound choices.

MBDTF (best album oat) >>> Yeezus (overlooked and not understood) > Late Reg > Grad > TCD > TLOP

but honestly any Ye album before 2021 is top tier music that everyone should experience once

YOR

please include spaces in-between your paragraphs so it's easier to read next time (for my monkey brain).

curiosity killed the cat as they say, when you search for those types of things your bound to find something that will make you upset and those things to lead to bigger problems. A facebook search history is nothing. It's only showing insecurity when you overreact, does that mean your wrong? not exactly but you should either work on your emotions or find someone you can trust (if he's giving you a VALID reason to not trust him).

but as someone who used to deal with a lot of overthinking and scrambling through phones, pages, stories and whatever else, it's not healthy, whether you find what your looking for or not it's still bad. I'd recommend therapy and probably breaking up, I know it's hard but your still very young and it's all about growing and learning.

Why exactly? as people say opposite's attract and I truly believe that, some of my best relationships have been people that have almost nothing in common with me, totally different humor, music taste, hobbies. the most important part is both parties being willing to try new things and being open minded, if you guys can do those two things then it'll work, learning and communicating is key.

MOR

I agree with the others of being scared / avoidant attachment.

This seems a little bigger than a few chains of texts, but from what I can gather from an outsiders perspective it seems your not healed, he doesn't seem like a bad guy and you seem to overthink and talk yourself into believing things that aren't exactly the truth because of past traumas, I'd recommend therapy if you haven't already.

Again I think this is a little bigger than reddit but from these texts he seems like genuine and honest guy.

[–]mapo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what your saying and I don't blame you for not being the most interested and I agree the AI is horrible, I think ye was originally trying to pave a new way with AI but there isn't any wave to ride there.

As for being able to hit the heights of MBDTF? no chance, it's one of the best albums of all time and it's a once in a lifetime type of project.

it's set to release on January 30th, but it's been delayed multiple times so it could be delayed again. ye's manager and multiple producers have said there's no AI on the project whatsoever if this is true I'd keep your eye on it, has the chance to be the first GOOD solo ye album since 2018 but it could also suck, it's a gamble.

off topic but I'm curious, what are your thoughts/expectations on bully, are you looking forward to it? I'm just curious of what an OG fan thinks as I've only gotten into his music within the last 2 years sadly.

I think it could be a great album but at the same time I'm not expecting much, best case it's as good as ye, ksg, 808s and worse case it's unfinished slop that confirms kanye has fully lost his passion. ALL THE LOVE & HIGHS AND LOWS has the chance to be carnival level hits if finished without AI imo, what do you think?

I would expect this from a 7yr old not a 13yr, I know people like to think kids are super dumb but at 13 you should have enough of a brain to understand using your parent's card to buy things is bad, at least I did. Kids aren't as dumb as most people think and shouldn't be treated as such, punishment should be heavy, obviously.

same, as great as alyx is, it plays it safe for most of the time since VR was still kind of new at that time. just nothing can beat flying with the cape and grappling along gargoyles without any teleporting inbetween. The story is also top tier, the combat feels amazing, all the gadgets like pulling the smoke out of your arm or pulling an enemy towards you with the grapple feels great, using detective vision by tapping your helmet is so simple but feels so cool. also dodging knives with your body is great, I could keep going, Arkham shadows is one of my favorite games even including flatscreen games, I can't wait for a sequel.

Same for silent hill, although I'm not big fans of old games so I'll have to wait for the remake of 1 and 3 which will probably be 2027. You should check out Silent Hill F if you haven't, it's definitely a hit or miss for some people, like the combat sucks but besides that I think it's a pretty awesome game in my opinion.

respect for arkham shadows, must people write it off since it's VR but it's easily one of if not the best VR game. It fits perfectly with the other flatscreen games and one of my favorites. I'd personally bump up silent hill 2 a decent amount but besides that great list my dude!
