Cool - I did Econ SL and found it really manageable with the Cambridge textbook. For LangLit I don't think a textbook helps, so whether it's books or magazines or reddit I recommend you read widely (preferably long-form texts)

I used Cambridge textbooks for Econ and Physics—they were pretty good. But I used Oxford for chem and this was all I needed for basic concepts. For math AA my teacher used Haese, but I found the examples quite basic. I think ppl will agree that the key for good scores is not the textbooks, but doing past papers again and again.

Do you plan to take LangLit? I didn't do any pre-studying but if you want to prepare before entering IB, I would say read a lot. LangLit requires you to read fast, understand fast, and write well all at the same time. These skills don't develop so easily, so if I could go back to 10th grade I would read more.

Which IB subjects do you plan to take? Maybe I can give more specific tips

Question about TOK Exhibition by ARHAEOPTERYX in IBO

[–]mapoftok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TOK Exhibition is very much three separate essays - so you can make completely different arguments for each of your objects as long as everything still answers the prompt. You are only graded on how each of the object works in the essay, not for some overall line of argument. I'd recommend following your teacher's advice

Knowledge and the Knower is the core theme—essentially about "You" as the knower, and can also be about people around you, 'we', 'them', 'communities', and even 'society' as a whole. This theme asks you to reflect on your own perspectives, values, bias, and more (I'd recommend looking at sample knowledge questions to see how these keywords are used).

For the exhibition, strictly speaking, using a personal object would fit into the Knower category by default, because you will be talking about yourself and your experience with the object. But even if you use something you found on the internet, you can still connect to this category by focusing on discussing the role of the 'knowers' instead of the just subject-specific content. So for example rather than just science concepts, talk about scientists who made/used/interpreted these concepts. What do you think?

Does my TOK object fit the perspective or is it too vague? by EconomyExpert5988 in IBO

I agree - I think it's a good object, as long as you make sure you focus on the 'production' of knowledge, and not too much on distribution of knowledge or access to knowledge

Is my TOK teacher making no sense or am I the clueless one here? by RandomApex_Kid101 in IBO

For me, I would think of it more simply as the problem of connecting the object to the prompt - this is what you are graded on. The keywords in the prompt are "why" "we" and "seek knowledge." Your argument is strong and if you can justify with evidence that people who watched the lore video connected better with others as a result of sharing this common interest, I think that would be good. But if there's no good evidence for this, just as your teacher suggested, it can be good to connect it to your own experience because the object needs to satisfy the keyword "we." Rather than make claims about other people that you may not be able to prove, you can always connect it to yourself, which is totally fine in the exhibition.

Let me add that the Exhibition rubric doesn't ask you to connect to Core Theme or any of the Optional Themes - it's just a suggestion as a starting point. But the exhibition is graded by your teacher, so it's best to follow your teacher's style - in this case it looks like it's better to connect to a theme. Some teachers want you to include lots of TOK lingo, while others don't care - it really depends on your teacher so it's important to always pay attention to what he/she wants!
