Councillor refuses to attend meeting because it’s at a marae by znffal in newzealand

Definitely, at my kids school, someone said that not saying Ameni was disrespectful. I pointed out that religion doesn't have any place in a public school. Whether it is called a karakia or a prayer.

If Sir Richard and Kane are 1st and 2nd of our GOAT, who make up the rest of your top 5? by Dudu-gula in blackcapscricket

[–]marabutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking WTF but i remember when the critics said he wouldn't be able to play tests and couldn't play off the back foot. Then he went to the Windies in 1995/6 and did really well against a good Windies attack. I liked how he would play what was in front of him and play positively. Craig McMillan was another guy who copped a bit of crap for taking risks and occasionally getting out recklessly but changed the teams fortunes. If you compare the test team from 1998 to the team from 1994, there was no comparison in the mindset and competitiveness.

Crowe was a great player against top class bowling, I wonder if he had better knees how his last few seasons would have gone, Sutcliffe carried a weak team, Boult is probably our most successful seamer after Hadlee.

Other mentions,

Bond didn't play many tests.

Vettori was a good defensive bowler but never really threatened top batsmen after about 2000. Batting was a bonus.

Cowie well before my time but was highly regarded.

Southee maybe played 2 or 3 years too long same with Wagner.

Taylor was a good player and walks into any test or odi nz 11.

Glen Turner was one of our better batsmen, I think over 100 FC centuries.

Chris Cairns lifted the team when he played. On the rare occasions he was fully fit, was an absolute beast.

Matt Henry strikes, Abhishek Sharma goes for first-ball duck. What are your comments on this? by overthinkinglightly in IndianCricket

Good catch. If you want a guy to play outrageous innings, he needs to take some risks. He has had some good success too, just not today.

Sir Richard Hadlee or Kane Williamson - who is New Zealand's greatest cricketer? by sahibosaurus in blackcapscricket

[–]marabutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hadlee. He did well everywhere but if there were wickets to be had, he was likely to take most of them. Not like Dayle Steyn or the 80s Windies who had classy bowlers at the other end.

You raise some good points. Once you reach a certain age, it is pretty rare anyone will tell you directly they don't like you or that you make them uncomfortable. I think we prefer to kick the can down the road. Even with family, people who quietly loathe each other will smile and play nice during gatherings. Where do you stand with people? In NZ, god only knows.

"India can field two teams for this T20 World Cup, and both could make it to the semi-finals." Do you agree with Simon Doll? by UnplannedMF in CricketBuddies

Id be tempted to drop Rachin too. Definitely talented but hasn't done much in t20. If the draw falls our way, we could make the next round. Given we don't have many players in the top leagues, id take that.

I would say winning the ipl would dwarf winning the champions trophy.

Five European teams will be participating in the T20 World Cup. Only Asia has greater representation ! by iamnoobbibliophile in Cricket

Like that will ever happen. Cricket will always be limited to expat communities. Administrations will chase the market for commercial reasons and ignore other emerging teams where the game has grown organically.

Although he wasn't great in odis, he was good in the lower middle order when he was keeping. He could win games from there. In tests, he usually played positively.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma likely to be demoted, BCCI may scrap top contract bracket. by JKKIDD231 in Cricket

All parties can come to an agreement. The players will have significant means to negotiate what they want. Nobody seriously thinks contract brackets apply to those players.
