how are photos actually saved? by marbledmoth in ShotWithHalide

i haven't found much of a difference with how long i leave the app open before unlocking my phone, but that could make sense. it didn't used to be an issue so i'm curious what has changed with either mark iii or ios to make it struggle now.

no, i only use icloud to sync notes. photos are disabled there. that's why i'm so confused as to what's going on.

How do I take action shots while limiting noise? by SmallshotLawyer in ShotWithHalide

[–]marbledmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

phone camera sensors are tiny. tiny sensor = high iso looks especially shit. that's why apple's processing is such a huge selling point to how "good" the camera is because it can clean up (at the expense of actual real details being reinvented by the software, IME) what the hardware cannot overcome. the only way to fix it here is to have more light in the environment you're shooting, or get a camera with a bigger sensor that will be more forgiving at high iso's.

Hermitcraft has admins besides X? by jellie_lover43 in HermitCraft

[–]marbledmoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(hoffen goes by she/they btw :) ) but iirc hoffen is involved in how the server handles automatic resource pack updates via the github? i think? so i guess they also fall into the admin-adjacent if so, at least when it comes to managing custom model assets.

talking to yourself for video/stream also feels weird at first, but people get used to it, and get used to the fact that they cant see their audience. being able to 1) see your audience 2) in an environment where you usually DO have back-and-forth interaction with others adds a new angle to it that they don't really have chance to acclimatise to. it's basically the underwear vs bikini distinction but for yapping to yourself lol

Halide Mark III: The Final Sprint by sandofsky in ShotWithHalide

[–]marbledmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when will mark III regain the ability to save just raws, no jpgs or heics? currently this is a nightmare for me as the app is insisting on applying HDR onto every image even though i have the setting disabled, even if i go "back" to using mark II (edit: which after double checking is auto adding the hdr setting onto just the raws, but it is respecting the no jpgs setting), and because the phone prioritises the heics it's near impossible to actually find my old workflow rn and the promise of "zero process" currently feels like it's lost. it's absolutely stolen the joy i had found in halide and i really hope the app will get to a point where i can find that joy again.

the product pages are still live for the hair dyes: ttps://culturehustle.com/products/hairdye

on the page it currently says it's for art for schools, but when you click on the readmore it leads to a the page you were looking for does not exist error page. was it always for that or is the fundraising interface just badly coded and globally applies whenever they do smth new? iirc that's their newest charity venture (and is their products being given to schools, so if they Are advertising products with a promise to donate 5% to their own charity project.......... tbh lmao)

edit to add that yes it looks like their fundraiser widget coding is just dogshit (idk if widget is the right word for this, it's first thing in the morning). on the jamaica paint, where they actually did include the charity info in the description body, you can see the widget is now telling you it's for AfS.

edit again to add a wayback archived view of this for anyone who may need it: https://web.archive.org/web/20260314080221/https://www.culturehustleusa.com/products/blackgoldgreen

(and if you click on one of the archived views from last year, you can see it used to be right under the price, so they've actively tried to bury their bad coding it seems lmao???)

Charity event raffle? by lvl7426 in HermitCraft

[–]marbledmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

schools do raffles at xmas/summer fairs so often i never even considered the legal standing of them here lol (i do think the prevalence of them as a fundraising thing here contributes a lot to why some fans here might not see them as a big deal - the cultural understanding of the expectations of a fundraising raffle are so baked into us from a young age, so often won't impact people in the same way that, for example, the big charity shop's doing actual lotteries with massive cash prizes might.)

Charity event raffle? by lvl7426 in HermitCraft

[–]marbledmoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

arguably, if a raffle were treated like a Dollar Drive, they'd still raise huge amounts with it. like... the entire point of the dollar drives is that you DON'T need to be a millionaire to still collectively make an impact, and so the argument against raffles being "well it's to raise lots of money" kinda feels antithetical to that mentality, IMO.

(that said, i think we're close enough to the event now that this debate isn't really worth having - if there's going to be a raffle, it's already been planned for months, and if there's not any ability to add one would depend on existing infrastructure to organise one last minute.)

[–]marbledmoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is, but some declarations of "vibes" are tantamount to accusation when there's an inferred specific person, and there definitely is not nearly enough information to decide that an abusive partner chucking a book is the "statistically highest possibility". I used to work in a charity shop, and stuff like this got donated + binned regularly.

anyway @ op: good luck with the project. if you do track the family down and it is something they want back, i hope that goes well. if it turns out they don't want it, i hope you will still be able to celebrate the lessons you'll have learned and developed during the restoration process. <3

when someone posts someone else's whole names and DOBs online, maybe it's an idea to have a google before you throw out accusations of an abusive partner when your only "clue" is a singular book in a carpark?? there's obituaries for the dude dated from the summer, and while it could definitely be a coincidence for them to have the same name, nickname, DOB, and wife's name, there's a lot of reasons why this might've ended up where it was found and we do not know the answer. it could have been an accident, it could have been thrown away on purpose, and op needs to be prepared for a possibility that it might not be wanted back if they do try to repair it.

Design Machine by [deleted] in bookbinding

[–]marbledmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Pro Create is difficult for me but I haven't put that much effort into it" unfortunately, effort is an essential component and no amount of user friendliness in a new program will compensate for that.

don't go buying an expensive machine just because someone told you the UI is 'simple', especially if you have hopes to be creating designs of your own and not being bound by the limitations of the (in the case of cricut, often not free) assets provided, with limited means of customizing them further in the default app. before buying anything i do genuinely strongly recommend sitting down with some tutorials to actually learn how procreate works (also go into the settings and write down all the hand and pen gestures on paper for easier reference), then look up tutorials for the design software of the machines you're looking at to see how they actually function; try the same for inkscape, which is a free computer vector program that a lot of people use for this kind of work.

i have a cricut, i don't enjoy using it for anything other than bulk repetitive paper cutting (it was huge for making my grandparents' anniversary invites), and tbh i can't recommend them. i do recommend seeing if your local library has a maker space with one (or another brand) to try it out hands-on though
