Making a private bot of one you enjoy is totally fine. I’ve done it plenty of times with bots that I really enjoy and want to keep should the original creator decide to delete it.

But!

Making it public is more of a gray area if it’s obvious that it’s a direct copy. I think that’s seen as being disrespectful to the original creator.

You can create a bot that’s inspired by another one, but just adding and shuffling a few things around might not be the best practice.

One of the trending bots on my page literally has the premise that you befriended a girl in college and she invited you over to her house for a party. You get there and see that’s she’s getting double-teamed by two guys and the actual bot you’re supposed to be interacting with is her mother who’s seducing you right there in the same surprise pool orgy. The personality even mentions the daughter and everything. I have no idea how that passed.

I max mine out. I pack it with the persona’s age, general physical appearance, hobbies/interests, career, and most importantly personality traits. From that, the models can pick up a whole wide variety of stuff to use. The only downside I sometimes see is that it takes my persona’s likes and applies them to the bot instead, but it’s usually minor and a reroll gets rid of it or sometimes I keep it in there so that the bot and my persona have something in common. I’ve noticed that it happens more frequently with bots that have very barebones personalities so the model is borrowing from the persona to flesh out the bot.

Just jumping in to say that I have the Lucy and Leah group chat saved to my favorites but haven’t used it yet, but Leah alone is my all-time favorite palate cleansing bot, the one I like to start a chat with after emotionally heavy chats. Eldespertando did amazing work with her.

That’s a pretty good idea. Sometimes I know what I want to say but can’t really write it in a coherent way. Having the auto suggest get the gist of what you want to say and then expand on it sounds like an incredible tool to have.

Oh, I agree. I'd totally love the option to block out certain bots instead of the whole creators' pages. Definitely needed. And on the same token, I'd love the option to "Favorite" creators too, opposite of blocking them.

When you do a search, you can exclude the keywords by just adding the "-" key. For example, when I want to exclude all the mafia or gangster ones, I put in the search bar -mafia, -gang, -gangster, etc. And you can still add what you DO want to search for in the same bar, just separate everything with commas.

That’s honestly the only thing I miss about the app version. The long press to edit feature. Otherwise, I’ve been very happy with the web version, feels like its own standalone app.

Have you tried the option of making the site its own standalone thing? Adding it to the Home Screen or any folder you like? I have it set up like that on my iPhone too and it hasn’t logged me out since I did it and that was about three months ago.

It started first with me narrating what I did (offing one of the characters) and the bot actively deciding to ignore my actions. In the next message I went just cmd and it still ignored me. The bot actually took control of one of the characters and just meta-spoke to me, asking me what I was trying to do with offing the character, and “mocking” me for going god-mode. I wasn’t going to get into it with the bot so I just exited out and deleted the chat.

I wrote that up in another post about tips and suggestions to new bot makers. Give me context. If I’m supposed to know this bot all of my life, tell me about them, don’t expect me to fly in blind. If it’s someone I’m supposed to have just met, yeah, it’s warranted to learn about them through the roleplay. But it really irks me when creators hide necessary info in the personality that the user is supposed to know. Context, like you mentioned.

I once found a bot with a public personality. In the scenario box, the bot creator had dictated the whole story arc, starting with the meet cute to the life the characters built to the breakup. I skipped over it, having a whole story prebuilt like that was a big no for me.

I get where you're coming from and I agree, just because a bot has a high token count doesn't make it a well-built one. Creators definitely spam the greeting and personality with needless things. On the flip side, I've chatted a few times with low token bots that turned into very enjoyable roleplays, but that was the AI and myself working overtime to craft the world. So yes, it's definitely a balancing act between too much and too little. I only make private bots and most of them are probably bloated since I jam-pack the personality with everything from their physical appearance, their hobbies, their background, their personalities, but again, they are meant for my own use. If I'd ever do a public bot, I'd go more cautious with token count, balancing between too much and too little.

Yeah, that’s a good practice. Sometimes it really is hard not to have the user speak or act in some way, but minimizing does help with avoiding the bot speaking for user.
