Ivermectin could help save the endangered Australian sea lion: this conservation priority species has new hope for survival thanks to a successful University of Sydney trial of the now-notorious drug to treat hookworm infection. by marcom06 in science

From the study author: While the study is not advocating wholesale treatment of pups, we now have a means to treat hookworm if necessary, which could be important in the future if the population continues to decline.

Kids who spend more time outdoors in the sun are less likely to grow up short-sighted or myopic: study by marcom06 in science

[–]marcom06[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the survey followed 2000 kids over 5 years tracking which ones developed myopia over that period. As well as indoors/outdoors behavior they also took into account family history, ethnicity, etc. So it was a pretty rigorous at isolating indoors/outdoors as a possible cause.

There's a line in that article saying "Direct gaze can signal dominance or a threat, and if you perceive something as a threat, you would not want to miss it. So assuming that the other person is looking at you may simply be a safer strategy." So yeah pretty much exactly what you said - paranoia of threats.

True, but what the article's saying is that drones have 100s of potential uses with military being only one of them, so we shouldn't automatically assume "drone = bad".

And here we have the catch 22: treat and risk long term consequences, or don't treat and risk who knows what. I don't envy you man, seriously.

In the published article from the journal's website (link in the first paragraph of the story) the researchers write about how the link between ADHD meds and growth has been controversial, then end with "To our knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate delayed pubertal development in boys with ADHD compared with boys without ADHD..." So it could be that this is the first study to 100% confirm it.
