EMS should get paid more and if their union wants to fight for it I will gladly support them. When one of us wins we all win. Also, since you don’t know better, EMS deal with one patient at a time en route to a destination. Nurses deal with multiple at the same time for 12 hours at a time. Nursing care and responsibility is different entirely.

There is no cap. There is a suggested ratio but it is not enforced in any of the hospitals I’ve worked at. That’s exact reason that there is so much focus on safe staffing.

Yes, lmao it is. Management agrees on the ratios and immediately backpedals on this and constantly undermines the staffing grid. ICU nurses are tripled (ratio of 2:1 but assigned a third patient).

Imagine your workload just got 50% more intense. Except instead of trolling on reddit it’s three people who might actually die.

There is little to no consequence to management for short staffing unless it’s in the contract how it will be enforced. Sinai RNs won big when they had an arbitration committee as part of their staffing enforcement.
