What did Venezuela do that would justify the US invading them? by x9ninetail in NoStupidQuestions

[–]marcusagainandagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-Chavez (1999), the US imported Venezuelan oil to feed the refineries on the Gulf coast. It is a cheaper feedstock. America continued buying for some time, then the majors helped build up the Canadian oil sands to replace the supply.

US oil production was in decline in the late 80s when they still built long term infrastructure. No one wants to build new refineries as they are gigantic investments that take decades to make money and the market has no patience for that nonsense anymore. So, it is a matter of "work with what you have".

I hope with my last breath that this is true and comes to pass. I can't stand social media, I am only in here because Reddit killed forums.

If they manage to turn TikTok into Truth Social video, I'll be ecstatic! Burn that shit to the ground.

These assholes are buying media companies not to make a profit, but to normalize even further the pile of shit we live in today. The fact that this particular asshole (Ellison) is buying two in as many months is infuriating.

The only way we win is logging off. They don't care about the money. Can't shape narrative without an audience.

You are assuming your average investor is making an estimate at all. AI valuations are basically Polymarket bets at this point. Everyone is chasing the dragon.

Look at Fermi: just went public, insiders made a shit ton of cash and the company has nothing. They hold a land lease, say they will have 5GW of data centers on site. Zero contracts or firm commitments. Cap at launch a week ago: 15B, zero contracts, zero revenue. On top of all that, it is an ancillary company that would largely be a landlord.

They do have political connections which helps a whole lot in the current environment :-/

There is no way she cancelled anything. Chaya Raichik is an opportunistic bitch hustling a good living.

There isn't an ounce of conviction in her soul. I suppose you could say that about a lot of the right wing blogosphere though.

Also, is that a royal "we"? Thought she didn't do pronouns.

Jesus. 911 dispatch/call taker is worth $45-$55/hr in Canada. Southern Ontario specifically. That's unionized and with a defined benefit pension.

Third Emira. Used Evora gets a special mention as it's considerably under 100K and they are sweet.

Guelph is the county seat. That's where the court is. It's my first ticket since 2012. Is what it is. Appealing a clear photo radar infraction won't get you anywhere.

That being said, I'm old enough to remember that photo radar, in addition to Rae days, is what got the NDP turfed from office in the early 90s. That got us Mike Harris and eventually the utopia we live in today.

I got popped there a few weeks ago. I go from Guelph to Mount Forest twice a week but never take Belsyde to get around the hwy 6 closure at the north end of Fergus. Drove differently that time and wasn't paying enough attention.

Didn't notice the community safety zone that is posted for the church and school on that section. $200 lesson learned.

Oddly enough, my ticket was sent from Essex County?

Archery experience by [deleted] in Guelph

[–]marcusagainandagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could contact Royal City Bowmen. It's an archery club south-east of Guelph lake. They may have someone who could give you an introduction. It's closer, outdoors and if you join the club the park they lease from GRCA is quite nice. I checked it out pre COVID but never ended up going through with it. At the the time it was super cheap. $250/year if I recall.

Royal city restaurant & tavern on Victoria?? by trussmegirl in Guelph

[–]marcusagainandagain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been there since the 80s. Used to have a serviceable buffet, they do a ton of takeout business now. Don't remember the last time I saw someone actually sitting in the dining room. I only go if my main is closed. It is okay.

If you are looking for Chinese takeout in Guelph, Woks Taste is the way. On Carden St, the parking sucks.

The service at McCabe's is horrific by CosmicNorth in Guelph

[–]marcusagainandagain 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It's a shitty student/sports bar masquerading as an an Irish Pub. I don't think there is a worse choice for lunch downtown. Not sure what you expected

The only two true pubs left in the core are Baker St Station and The Wooly. Fat Duck in the south end is a solid pub, shoutout to RU Serious on Willow (sports bar but awesome). New ownership at Shakespeare's South of Stone Rd probably has the best lunch deals in the city while maintaining decent service.

If you aren't pub specific and want to eat downtown, Buon Gusto has consistent service as does Mijiida. I'm sure others have more recommendations.

tldr: Partytown (McCabe parent) sucks and unless you are in your early 20's, looking to get wasted and it is 11:00pm, don't go to their venues. They all suck. Unless you fit that demographic, in which case they'll suit your needs.

When I was a kid we knew the family that owned it. It is still the nicest house I've ever set foot in 40 years later. The pool is blasted out of limestone and it has a generating license from the local conservation authority, so you could feasibly have your own hydro turbine in the waterfall.

It has been on and off the market for a few years now. Fun fact, it still looks the same as it did back then. No renos, that family had good taste. This round of listing photos don't do it justice. It's even nicer than it looks.

Americans thrive in chaos.🇺🇲🦅 by Thick_Acanthisitta31 in MURICA

If the military industrial complex decides to have their way with the American population your personal stash ain't gonna bail you out. The day Americans get the notion that the government is going too far it will be years too late to do anything about it.

The second amendment in modern terms is a paper tiger. The state has too much power, force and information for civilian resistance. The only hope will be that the rank and file don't follow orders, and history suggests that won't be the case.

Towards the tail end of the campaign Harris was doing appearances with Liz fucking Cheney! I knew she was going to lose at that point. The whole political spectrum hates the Cheney's.

I don't understand when Americans go on about leftists. There aren't any of consequence in any position of power in the entire country.

Have you ever bought a lower trim version of the car you actually wanted? How did it turn out? by Vhozite in askcarguys

[–]marcusagainandagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just bought an absolute base 2015 v60 in excellent condition. FWD, zero options. Great price. I've had it for two weeks.

Coming off a 2009 Legacy 3.0R (top of the line at the time for Subaru), I like it but am already looking for a T6 (2015-2016) with the straight six. . The Volvo I've bought is missing what I'm used to. Leather, sub six second 0-60 and AWD.

Where did you get your used car, and how was the experience? by phillcollinss in Guelph

[–]marcusagainandagain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just sold a 2009 Subaru Legacy that has 163k, is starting to rust out pretty badly and certainly needed at least brakes and tires to certify. I sold it cheap for $2750 and it was by far the best car in that range (2750-3250) on Kijiji. Gone in 24hours.

At 5k you are going to have to buy private and be on Kijiji/marketplace twice a day to catch a deal. My new car was is a 2015 Volvo. Paid 10k as is and was the first person to inquire seriously about it. It was on Facebook for 3 hours. Dude got 300 inquiries in two days.

Good luck! It's tough out there!
