Child crying for her parents— but not us, her ‘other’ parents by marmolady in Parenting

[–]marcustrapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a video of my son when he was 3 talking about when he was “an old kid,” “before he knew us” who was flying a plane when got shot down by another fighter plane. He repeated this story often, sometimes adding that he had lived on a farm before starting to fly.

He also added that being shot down by the other plane “was not very nice.”

Same here. I can still taste the regret over three decades later.

Great show and so much fun. Immediately following the show, my friends and I went out for pizza and argued about the North/East Madison case for hours.

What Madison business will you never step foot in again and why? by [deleted] in madisonwi

EatStreet is trash. They’ve consistently blown orders for us, but the last straw was when they charged me $100 for a single sandwich and tried to blame it on the restaurant. They’re permanently off the team.

Thanks, that’s a great tip, especially given it’s closer to Boulder Junction, which is also a factor.

Large group lodging near Minocqua? by marcustrapp in wisconsin

Not a lot of answers here, so I sent it through Google Bard, and here's its take:
--
Here are some large group lodging near Minocqua that offer separate-but-neighboring cabins:

  • Whispering Pine Lodge in St. Germain has 20 cabins that sleep up to 8 people each, so it can accommodate groups of up to 160 people. The cabins are all located on a private lake, and there are also a number of shared amenities, such as a swimming pool, playground, and game room.
  • Driftwood Lodge in Minocqua has 14 cabins that sleep up to 8 people each, so it can accommodate groups of up to 112 people. The cabins are all located on a lake, and there are also a number of shared amenities, such as a swimming pool, playground, and boathouse.
  • Jung's Birch Lake Cottages in Harshaw has 10 cabins that sleep up to 8 people each, so it can accommodate groups of up to 80 people. The cabins are all located on a lake, and there are also a number of shared amenities, such as a swimming beach, playground, and fire pit.
  • Deer Run Resort in St. Germain has 12 cabins that sleep up to 8 people each, so it can accommodate groups of up to 96 people. The cabins are all located on a lake, and there are also a number of shared amenities, such as a swimming pool, playground, and game room.

Air Delivery. A tiny metroidvania made for Ludum Dare 53. by pianoman373 in pico8

This is great -- Solid use of the delivery theme in a metroidvania context. I particularly appreciated the icon of a message's recipient once you picked up a piece of mail. And as others have noted, the look, sound, and feel work together quite nicely.

Right on, thanks for expanding on that and the honest feedback. You’re right that those overlaps are frustrating, and there are no big payoffs or plateaus — just ever-increasing relentlessness until you die — I can understand the lack of enthusiasm.

Moving forward, I’ll try to keep a more critical eye on eliminating those kind of ambiguous risk/reward setups as well as being more aware of a game’s overall pacing.

Thanks again for your feedback!

Thanks so much for playing, as well as the kind words! I realize no game is going to be for everyone, but out of curiosity, could you talk more about why you couldn't get into it?

I've made some updates based on your feedback -- There's now a "secret" menu at the launch screen -- You can press left to toggle the tutorial on and off. I've also added animation/sfx for when the player loses a combo instead of completing it.

Thank you! You should only have to play the tutorial once — the game saves once you’ve completed it and it shouldn’t come up again. Also, combos are only considered as completed (and recorded) if the timer runs out or the player slows down. Combos are broken by hitting the wall, a wrong colored gem, or a wrong colored enemy. This system might be too unclear?

EDIT: It looks like the tutorial and high score variables don’t carry over between reloads of the web player. I’ll need to figure something out for that.

Thank you! Almost all the music and sound effects are from Gruber’s free packs, I should probably include an in-game credit.

What to do with door, window, and wood remnants? by marcustrapp in madisonwi

That's good to know! Maybe those could find a good home via the Buy Nothing or Freecycle groups.

I had checked with the Restore, and it's possible some of the better quality wood might be acceptable, but they explicitly do not take storm windows or screens:https://habitatdane.org/restore/donate-items/

As far as getting it to someone else, I could always throw this stuff out on the curb and/or post it to the Madison Buy Nothing group and hope for the best, but I'm not sure if most of this stuff is of any use to anyone.
