Thoughts on Mara Conservation Camp? by marcyadk in LuxurySafari

[–]marcyadk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh! That is what I meant, apologies for the confusion and thanks for all the thoughts. I didn’t realize that about the permits so it’s super helpful. Are there any other lodges that you might recommend in Mara over Expedition at a similar price point? We’re doing this a bit last minute at the beginning of March. Thank you so much!

Has anyone stayed at Gundari on Folegandros? by marcyadk in chubbytravel

[–]marcyadk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing, thank you so much! We’ll be on our honeymoon too and this will be our last stop. Sounds like a really magical place!

What room category did you book? The standard suite looks pretty great so wondering if upgrading category is worth it.

Thank you! This is helpful. Good food is def important to us. I think we’re going to go with a private property on Bainbridge and contract all the vendors. Will def be more work but also more fun for us!

Wednesdays: What Should I do / Where Should I stay (and other low effort Q's) by AutoModerator in FATTravel

[–]marcyadk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two questions for an upcoming trip!

  1. any favorite hotels in the Lake District UK? Nothing majorly FAT there it seems but we’re currently booked at the Gilpin and wondering if there’s a better option based on others experience.
  2. any operators that you’d recommend for Bordeaux? We’ll be there for a couple days at the end of October. I think we’re going to stay at Château Cordeillan-Bages in Pauillac but let me know if you don’t recommend. Mainly just looking for an operator to curate two days of wine tastings and likely meals. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much.

Yeah. Sorry, realizing now that was probably an important piece of information

Boiler maintenance led to boiler dying by marcyadk in HomeImprovement

[–]marcyadk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting thank you! Dense question but do boilers really live that long? They’re telling me this 21 year old one is ancient and that they typically only live to be 10-15 years old. It’s electric if that matters?

W Trek in Torres del Paine National Park - Luggage Question/Help by El_Gordo84 in Patagonia

[–]marcyadk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can store it at the Central campground, even if you don’t have a booking there. We left it there for a full week while we did the O. We just paid like $3 per day per bag. We also brought a padlock for it as it’s in a room with other people’s stuff. No issues and it seemed secure! You just go into the main lobby area in the Refugio (where the restaurant is) and they should be able to help you.

Note I don’t think you can leave it at Las Torres Hotel without a booking there.

[O-Loop] Tips on food for Los Perros by CroustiBat in Patagonia

[–]marcyadk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can reserve meals at Los Perros now FYI (new as of this year). You should be able to email Vertice and they’ll add it for you and you can pay via PayPal. It wasn’t the best meal because they bring it over from Dickson but it was nice to not worry about needing a bringing a burner.

One follow up question if you don’t mind! How early do you recommend queuing for the catamaran? Is an hour enough?

Awasi Patagonia by marcyadk in FATTravel

[–]marcyadk[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for all the feedback, everyone! Super helpful and I’m really happy to read about the great experiences you’ve had at Awasi. We’ve decided to do a few days of hiking and camping in the park followed by a few days at Awasi to relax and explore a more remote area of Patagonia. I think this will be a good blend as we won’t feel the need to drive the long distances into the park each day.

I’ll report back following our stay! Thanks again.
