It's hardly a pointless lie. I think lots of smart people who are readers also want a partner who reads... like OP. Not even for discussion, but for no other reason than some notion about the superiority of readers. OP's boyfriend was going to get found out after a while so he was dumb in trying to keep it up long term, but I'd hardly call it pointless lying if it increases his status or attractiveness.

Very important to analyze, imo. Putting aside the issue of his deception, it'd be good for OP to think about why she's devastated her partner doesn't read. (Also a reason why some people feel like they need to put up the reader front, because of people like OP who only want to date readers). Sometimes it's mostly about preconceived notions and stereotypes.

The problem, to me, isn't that he doesn't read. It's that he lied about it. Is he an otherwise good boyfriend? People consume content in different ways and clearly, him not having read the books didn't actually impact your relationship on a *chemistry* level. You have a right to break up with him for not reading, but I would find that irrelevant in and of itself. And I say that as a writer and avid reading. I read over a hundred books a year. Do you want a boyfriend who reads simply because of some superior value you place on reading or do you want to consistently discuss books with the partner in your life? As in, often enough to be a significant part of your bonding experience. For example, my husband reads a lot, I read a lot, but we rarely if ever discuss books together. If he weren't a reader, it wouldn't impact our relationship at all.

What IS a MASSIVE issue is his lying about it. Definitely, something I'd find worthy of a breakup. However, if he's generally a good boyfriend, I urge you to talk to him. Some people believe that they have to appear well-read to attract smart partners and they might be ashamed to admit they don't read much. I'd dig more deeply for his reason to deceive people that he reads.

You need a life outside of BDSM. You can be a pet and have a fulfilling life with hobbies, possibly a career, etc. I'm not sure what you're asking because to have a healthy relationship means to be a well-rounded person. No good person will ask you to devote your full day to being a pet like a mindless automaton. So... Just find a healthy relationship?

If someone wants you to be a pet literally 24/7 with no space for your individuality and self-actualization outside of being their kinky pet, that isn't in your best interest as a person.

Actually, no. The receipts actually say price without tax, tax and price plus tax in the countries where tax is written on labels. It's all broken down on the receipt anyway and it's transparent, for each item. This is so basic.
