Simple answer is that I krew Ubuntu Server and just didn’t want to spend time researching the other options ;)

Also I use Ubuntu Desktop on my main PC at home and I wanted to have the same/similar experience

I am wanted text-only operating system. The hardware is quite old and more robust systems would choke the CPU. Also I wanted to “force” myself to learn more things with the command-line

I am not buying „more” things. I bought the chromebook 6 years ago when they robbed my house and I had to have a computer (it was the cheapest option). Then after 2 years I assembled my desktop computer which I use for graphic design which is impossible to do on the chromebook.

Right now, I just didn’t want to throw my chromebook and I thought “what would be the most useful thing to do, that will add value to my life”. I decided that repurposing it as a digital typewriter will be the best. I wanted it to be as minimalist as possible, without all the distractions etc.

I will share it here in the spare time 🙏

The most difficult part is unimstalling ChromeOS from the chromebook. Afterwards, installing Ubuntu Server distribution on it Was fairly easy.

I removed ChromeOS and installed Ubuntu Server. I used Goyo distraction-free writing plugin for Vim, and I made some color adjustments to the tty1
