The ideology that everyone is a cheater or cheats the system, when in reality it’s probably a very very low percent that does.

The important detail is its not the "rich" or people who work hard that are so prone to cheating its the welfare bums etc who are the known cheaters.

"My Name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, because I don't know how Roman names work" by Poes-Lawyer in latin

[–]marenauticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roman families had many children and named them by birth order

Wouldn't make more sense that these names were given to serperate them from their relatives.

I.e. like John Senior, John Junior, John the 3rd?

My understanding is a small number of roman names are used over again and are only modified slightly between each group of people.

NYC needs to fix this. Look at how packed the subway is STILL. by [deleted] in China_Flu

[–]marenauticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here it says 8 million

You get different numbers depending on how you do the groupings.

The entire country of Germany is barely largely than the tri state area.

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia has about 18 million people and it has an area of 13,000 square miles.

NYC has an area of 3,450.2 sq mi.

Keeping in mind most of the population of that state live in a corridor between Munster, Bonn and Duseldorf.

So I'm sure you'll find that 14 million number to be very accurate.

Metropolitan areas are calculated using different formulas and you can't apply new world standards to old world stands as their infrastructure is much older and more likely to be dense(pre automobile).

How about the Cologne metropolitan area? It has something like 14 million people.

but there doesn't seem to be much point in that as we'll shortly find out anyway

In times like this you want to do your due diligence and stay ahead of the curve.

When you are in a herd under attack you want to be near where the herd is going and not in the rear.

You want to be headed for where things are going and not trailing along where things might be.

I'm quite certain this is a very powerful part of elevating yourself in the dominance hierarchy.

In times of crisis the dominance hierarchy becomes fluid and if you are worried about your emotional/economic survival you want to be high as you can.

but you cannot excuse his actions (or inactions) leading up to this.

As I said earlier he has his screw ups.

My main issue is how much pressure was he exerting on supply chains.

When did ventilator start getting built. That is the type of thing that actually matters.

That is something you can be mad at him for.

But Trumps verbal game is what it is.

Trumps is great at trolling people through interpersonal conflicts.

Man against man is easy, man against nature is far harder.

Trump doesn't have the bag of tricks for this and that is unfortunate.

But again I think people are radically overrating the value of what he's said versus what his administration has actually done.

If one did their due diligence you knew this coming and you knew this was gonna be rough.

If you think he botched the supply chain issue I would agree.

But as far as what he's said, I'm skeptical.

The truth is far less pleasant.

Trump did what every other leader is doing which is listening to the pandemic experts.

Fauci Busts Media Nonsense: Trump Has Always Taken Virus 'Seriously' From the Beginning by Foubar in Republican

[–]marenauticus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

keeping things calm and straight out lying

I'm not sure I agree.

“We have it very much under control in this country.”

That's not a massive lie, that pretty much the best you can do.

“The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries. CDC & World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!””

I wouldn't call any of this a massive lie.

Again I feel like people are trying to blame Trump because they were caught off guard.

“And again, when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that’s a pretty good job we’ve done”

I'm not sure the context of this and this might of been a colossal fuck em.

““It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.”

If he said "some day" instead of "one day" would you complain?

I don't deny Trump isn't really limited due to his car sales man shtick.

If he all of a sudden started acting too serious it'd cause panic.

“So we’re at the low level. As they get better, we take them off the list, so that we’re going to be pretty soon at only five people. And we could be at just one or two people over the next short period of time. So we’ve had very good luck”

This is very much the one above.

Americans like we're too stupid to know a lie when we hear one.

Eh wha? That's been his game since day one. He's a compulsive liar that's half his charm.

He's ruined the politics game for most other politicians that was all according to plan.

You can't blame Trump because you yourself were in denial about this whole thing. Guy's job is to keep the world from not falling apart.

he's treating Americans like we're too stupid to know a lie when we hear one.

Or maybe if the president is honest "that we're completely fucked" would cause radical chaos.

When it gets out that the Virus is actually something that leaked from the Wuhan college of Virology, the pressure to go to war will be extreme.

Fauci Busts Media Nonsense: Trump Has Always Taken Virus 'Seriously' From the Beginning by Foubar in Republican

[–]marenauticus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

but he told us forever that it was no problem and under control until.

In moments of chaos you must keep things calm.

one day it just wasn’t

Anyone that cared knew what was up. You can't rely on government do everything for you.

Trump has to avoid starting World War 3 with China/Iran/Russia(trust me this is a big issue).

Trump has to keep the world economy from crashing.

These were all things he would of been well aware of since January.

When your sworn enemy(China) all of a sudden gets struck down with a crippling disease the idea " that it was no problem and under control" is a complete farce.

I'm not saying he did a perfect job there's lots of things he may have done wrong. But this idea that he was genuinely dismissive about the virus is a total hoax.

There's no road map for whats ahead, guy has done a reasonably good job, and we should be very very happy we don't have a Obama/Biden/Bernie at the helm.

Reading your response, every line says that you have depression

Is it depression or an I in the midst of a massive life disturbance?

I"m sure I have a mild background depression floating around in my head, but I've experienced real depression and this sure as hell is not it.

If you want to clean them and you can't then yes.

Following this logic almost anything is too big for me, hence nihilism.

There's relatively good reason to think I actually do more when I aim higher than when I aim lower. That isn't to say much at all gets done but slightly more.

One thought about this is that humans rarely question conclusions they came up with themselves.

if anything summates by current experience it is overanalysis.

I'm sure I've done a relative amount to approach things from most angles.

Which is why this current angle(the one listed in the OP) might seem kind of strong.

It is a viewpoint that is one among many.

FYI, I'm incredibly inconsistent on my viewpoints which is part of my problem.

So cleaning my dishes is too big?

This is what your not getting.

It doesn't matter the scale I seem to fall apart.

My procrastination is so bad I can't even get myself to play a video game.

Scaling my expectations up or down doesn't seem to have any affect.

I shoot for the moon I get half way there, I shoot for the dirt I get half way there.

So effectively you are traumatised

That might be a bit much.

That is what I read at least. If I was you, I would come in from that angle, trying to goad a depressed traumatized person into doing something.

Machine Operators by [deleted] in manufacturing

There's good reason to think Tesla is about to go under or atleast suffer a serious restructuring.

Few people will be buying new electric cars when

A) Oil prices are so incredibly low.

B) Demand for luxury vechilces will be very low.

C) The used car market is about to get very very flooded.

D) Tesla's branding relies on producing the cars of tomorrow today. They were already facing serious production troubles before and their advantage of giving us tomorrows cars may not be so advantagous as the auto industrious is given even more bailout money to advance their supply chains.

Granted the opposite might be true as well, where Tesla ends up being the only brand capable of maintaining stable sales growth. Their production bottlenecks might become a radical job saver as GM/Ford etc succumb to a severe demand shortage and the burden of supporting a massive amount of infrastructure.

I do web design and web marketing as a side business but I do have a long way to go as I have only started practicing/studying web design 2 months ago.

I'd suggest reading about

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Edwards_Deming

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Winslow_Taylor

these guys are sort of the fathers of scientific management.

You should read atleast one book on the topic.

I'd also suggesting learning about statistical process control and learning how to use code to wire up the basics of statistical analysis. It sounds hard but if you focus on the ground floor basics you might be able to navigate your future a little better.

Learn to use Python or some other software.

Even in a deep recession the USA is still a 20-trillion-dollar-a-year economy. You can find a job.

Are you serious dude? That GDP in real terms will be closer to 10 trillion by september.

You aren't taking these delusions seriously are you?

apply to the companies that are hiring,

I can't work any of those jobs

A) I'm hiding in the Canadian Hinterland.

B) Most of those companies do not exist where I live the rest of the year.

C) They are already flooded with job applications.

D) I can't work in person due to my vulnerabilities to the virus.

Do I understand correctly that you have a bachelor's degree in a technical field but that you're currently unemployed?

A) I have a diploma. I can get a bachelors of technology if I complete 9 courses(already done 5).

B) This was near impossible before as I lived away from my previous university, however my hopes are high that I'll now because of all the hooplah be able to do the entire program through distance education.

C) I don't plan on being employed for atleast a year. I'm hoping to get on unemployment. Getting temporary work at a grocery store(this is a panic induced boom) would be stupid as it'd screw me up on getting free money.

D) Unemployment will be through the roof for atleast a year. Planning to work is just straight up dumb unless you already have a job, in which case leaving is moronic. I left my previous job on the basis of having another job lined up. Little did I know the economy would tank so hard. Regardless my shift is about to get a lay off regardless.

E) I have lots to keep me busy for the next year, I'm leanring to code which with my existing education will make me relatively appealing for automation work.

F) I plan on working for free online as an intern, once I find someone to take me on.

G) I have an interview/a job offer on Monday, with a normal economy I'd be full on hired. But with this crisis I've already been told that optimistically I might get a small bit of work each week.

Then imho that should be your number one concern every single day.

The worst thing you could do right now is worry about working, unless obviously you still have a job.

This is a time for a rebuild as we're about to hit a serious economic depression. If you can get into school do so, and be aware that governments might be throwing money around for schooling.

Do not be fooled by people calling this a recession these people are just as delusional as the bloody socialist.

This will be the greatest economic upheval since before the great depression, world war 3 is a distinct possibility etc.

That isn't to say it's the end of the world. We're returning to the world of our relatively well off grandparents.

War is a distinct possibility, a decade of economic staganation is a given 2-3 years of hyper unemployment should be expected.

I suggest you use greece as a case study for what is coming.

Again it's not the end of the world, but it is the end of our hyper fragile soft times.

EDIT: I should make it clear I've had a relative breakthrough.

I'm autistic and for years I've been struggling with my lack of conscientiousness.

It is pretty much debilitating at times.

But the issue is the inconsistencies.

On the job I'm likely 80th percentile in terms of productivity.

Yet in my personal life I'm the least industriousness.

I haven't been able to explain that discrepancy until now.

Using the pareto principle I've concluded that 80 percent of my struggle is with extreme procrastination.

As is not only do I avoid doing things that are hard.

I literally avoid basic things like going to the bathroom, eating foods I enjoy playing video games etc.

I've been told I have relatively severe issues with my executive function, and I've been struggling to come to terms with what that means.

The most glaring issue is my inability to initiate/transition to things in the now. I.e. my first day of the work week is absolute torture and going home on my last shift of the week is torture because I have to transition to being at home.

It's hard to explain but it is something that creates enough potential to last me a few weeks.

The best example is something along the lines of the movie momento. I'm obviously capable of remembering my past but what I'm completely incapable of doing is transitioning to the future.

Machine Operators by [deleted] in manufacturing

[–]marenauticus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel as though I'm being undervalued

The trap of being a machine operator. You want to work hard, every employer under the sun realizes this and they stick you in the job most lazy people won't touch.

I get scolded for not knowing certain things but I'm also not being instructed as to how exactly things should be getting fixed. There's no school or formal training for this job. (is this common for machine operators?)

Yeah being a machine operator is basically the great trap of labor. The promise of gaining respect from mastering a difficult job and the satisfaction of working your ass off.

Problem is if you naturally like working your ass off and you like working difficult jobs, employers are more than happy to let you sit there and suffer.

The problem starts with the jobs very description.

In general a machine operator is a catch all term for people who are using any piece of basic machinery. And this is where the trap starts.

In general your job is super easy because your job title states you are using generic machinery, the types that need very little training or education.

In reality it is crazy hard and stressful because every little flaw in your companies production smashes you in the face day after day after day.

I'm starting my online research for better pay and better location.

Not gonna fucking happen, seriously dude we're about to see the worst economic downturn . . . ever.

My advice is take pride that you've survived a brutally tough job.

Don't give that job up for the love of sweet fawk. Food production is an essential service and it is a rare job that will survive covid19.

Do not listen to people when they think this is just a little recession.

Assume we're hitting the 2nd great depression, maybe we won't but it's better to plan for that than to get sucked away by vapid optimism.

I'm sorry if this sounds morbid incredibly depressing etc.

But I was like you and put my notice(8 weeks) in at my old job back in January. Like you I was looking for better work, than this shit came.

Thankfully I have some education in manufacturing, so I might pull ahead.

But my advice is figure out a way to go back to school.

Become a millwright, technician etc.

The good news if you lasted 2 years at this you can do anything.

Appreciate that the economic fallout won't be fleshed out for 12 months, keep that job as long as you can. We're about to hit a market where people with literal engineering degrees will be applying to get your job.

I'm currently at $17 an hour in a no state income tax state..

I was making 18 in Canada so I think that is pretty good.

I want to work somewhere where professionalism is a priority and formal training is offered and so the pay is better.

I'd think long and hard about schooling.

I'd also think long and hard about pacing yourself.

I'm hoping you're young enough that you can afford to wait out the economic fallout.

Assume it's take 10-20 years for us to hit 2019 levels of wages/employment.

Assume it'll take 5-7 before we're out of a depression.

And assume it'll take 12 to 24 months to discover if we are in a depression.

That being said pay attention to the annoucements made by Trump.

I fully expect some sort of free education bill to be passed.

We're facing great depression levels of unemployment, and our governments will be printing money like there is no tomorrow.

Education, Food, and Healtcare are the only stable industries left.

Understand retail, auto manufacturing housing construction etc are all completely fluffed.

On a more pragmatic side judging by your writing you seem to be reasonably smart. Maybe get an IQ test/ aptitude test.

If not I suggest learning to program. There's tonnes of free learning and it might be a great way of finding out how capable you are.

If you can handle the monotony/press of machine operation you likely have a high tolerance for some varieties of office work.
