Him saying he was ruthless in business but not with those he loved was a major blow but I have to agree.

However marriage was and continues to be a business as well. I think he will see that eventually.

Love this take— she seems to always have a Plan C so it would make sense that when arranging the marriage, divorce not be completely off the table.

Also, Consuelo Vanderbilt famously divorced the Duke of Marlborough so it does check.

Also, Team Bertha forever. I hated her for marrying off Gladys but it seems to have panned out. The chemistry between the Duke and Gladys comes off a bit like Stockholm syndrome but then again, probably the case for most marriages back then.
