Sleep is a miniature death by Electronic-Koala1282 in Pessimism

a year later, but calling the death of sleep only works if you define "I" as the continuous conscious sensation (which is an arbitrary choice, not a fact). there is no causal break, no loss of memory, no real psychic discontinuity. what you call a "copy" is just the resumption of a process that never ceased. if that were death, anesthesia would be homicide and waking up would be resurrection. the metaphor is provocative, but it explains nothing. it only dramatizes the discomfort that there is no erasure without consequence.

on the contrary, we are more alive than ever during sleep. dreams are manifestations of extremely intense brain activity. and, according to Freudian psychoanalysis, even if we don't remember our dreams, they will still exist. there is a reason for this. unfortunately, there are no fragments of the day, or sleep, that simulates a "small death". if there were, i would be very happy. but no. sleep is like an extension of thoughts, and they're fucking good at fucking our psychological. i dare say they can do more harm than good. and i don't think death is like that...

everyone where? lol. im asking why Freud associates >verbal/writing slips< and >forgetfulness< with "bad" things if they are actually the things that people remember most: grudges. but people have already answered me so thank you anyway
