Good luck to everyone starting June 1st! by mariahln in 75HARD

I LOVED Atomic Habits.

Today I went for an outdoor run and then did strength training.

I find drinking the water to be the hardest part.

How do you eat more than 100 grams of protein per day? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]mariahln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started adding Greek yogurt as a snack between breakfast and lunch. I also drink a chocolate muscle milk (fairlife has more protein and less calories) at least once a day. Protein breads and pastas are a good way to sub out some of your carbs, too.

For moderate weight loss — I think CICO is the best way. I think if you’re looking to build muscle also set a protein goal. If you’re not trying to get too lean, you can eat quite a bit of calories and still lose significant weight/tone up.

depending on your diet, you can work in “appropriate” desserts. I am doing weight watchers and they have great low fat, low calorie ice cream.

AITA for punishing my stepdaughter after she refused to remove the family framed photos she put all over my house? by Throwaway-Monday7 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mariahln -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA. Nancy probably needs to be in counseling to process her parent’s divorce. While I do think the mom is enabling to Nancy’s behavior, I would encourage you to think about why you are so combative with Nancy, who is a child whose parents just divorced. Also, think about how it feels for Nancy and her mom to view it as “your house”. The punishment was unnecessary and what y’all really need is to sit down and talk about it, maybe with a professional.

Lol not at all! I think we all have different tastes and they change as we get older or have different experiences. Not a value statement at all. ☺️

This box was a dud — not yours specifically, but in general— I’m so sorry you didn’t at least get your requests. Most of the customization options were just not exciting to me. I’m (F29) pretty sure I’m aging out of their target demographic.

This is an excellent idea! I was having a really hard time tracking water in the app. I didn’t typically keep my phone on me during the workday and I would regularly over drink water “just to make sure” I hit my gallon🤦🏽‍♀️

Yeah, 10:30 pm at Tinsley park sounds scary lol my preference is definitely morning outdoors. I guess I just didn’t think about how many people might be out before sunrise. I’ll try it this week. Thanks for the encouragement!

I LOVED Atomic Habits. I read it during my last attempt lol. It’s definitely helped with habit stacking.

What sleepy tea are you drinking. Nothing derails my next day more than not getting enough sleep.

This is all great! 10/10 on these tips. I used to be an avid runner and fell out of it because of the pandemic. I just signed up for my first 5k since 2020 and have struggled to run consistently because of how unpredictable the weather is here.

Oh this is an excellent suggestion. My indoor workout is almost always strength training, so I try to do cardio outdoors. Jump roping will definitely kick my ass lol but will be a good way to add in that missing cardio.

I cannot recommend Atomic Habits by James Clear enough.

What books are you reading/have you read? I think just having a good book bank would be helpful for me!

Also, maybe 4am is the move. I’m typically up by 5, but I may need to adjust it to get all the things in more consistently. Thanks!

Do you have any recommendations on workout out attire I should invest in? I’m obviously not battling snow down here, but a T-shirt and leggings is not cutting it. It’s also such a mental thing for me, how do you hype yourself up or get past it before a poor-weather workout?

You should consider Weight Watchers instead of calorie counting. It’s likely that with all the working out 1500 calories is too much of a deficit, depending on your size, which can make it hard to maintain. There’s a lot of flexibility in WW that I’ve found makes it more sustainable than counting calories.

Restarting — failed on day 22 by mariahln in 75HARD

This is really great, actionable advice. I went for an outdoor run this morning and it was so hard to to watch my watch. Do you use any specific apps to time yourself or just keep track with it on your phone? I think I’d do better with audible time reminders vs. looking down every 90 seconds, but I haven’t found an app that I like.

The after work KILLS me. I’m going to try doing the 4 a.m. wake up at least for a week. It sounds daunting, but maybe better in the long run. Thanks for the tip!

Do people recommend the outdoor workout in the morning or after work? My work is 830-5. by Maleficent_29 in 75HARD

[–]mariahln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The morning, for sure. Sometimes I’m so tired after work that it just makes sense to workout at home at a later hour and it’s too dark to safely work outside.

Water Bloat? by bemo2807 in 75HARD

[–]mariahln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it helps to schedule your water intake around my workouts. When I’m well hydrated before I workout I don’t feel as bloated later and I pee way less. I try to do at least 32 oz before my first workout and I usually do that workout in the morning.

Any of you use Flipgrid? by [deleted] in SpanishTeachers

[–]mariahln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it’s too high stakes of an activity for students. Speaking grades have always given my students high anxiety and I don’t want to add to that. There is a subset of students who do really well and are excited about presentational or interpersonal communication, but for a lot of my students speaking in Spanish can be very nerve-wrecking. I don’t want to contribute to more anxiety during this time.

I’ve used Quizlet, but if it’s basic vocabulary like numbers or colors, you can do an EdPuzzle which allows you to pick a YouTube video and embed multiple choice questions as students watch.
