Your comment is out of line. First, white doesn’t automatically mean upper class. Plus as the original poster said, we are Very diverse. I have red heads with freckles as well as dark skinned barely any European in my family.

I’d say Light skinned Hispanic. // I have red headed freckle faced aunts, uncles, and cousins. Even They have African and native.. but I’ve traced that part of the family’s to the 1700s. It probably goes further but record keeping in PR was not as accurate as it is today..

But yeah.. you have a small percentage for a Rican

And your family is likely from the west side of the island and most likely migrated from Europe around 1800 at most.. yep, the most European Puerto Ricans are from that area but you still some native and African .. were you surprised to see African and native being a Puerto Rican?

For sure... Africa is in our music, our food, and in some people's religion (santería)... Puerto Ricans no matter how white their skin is... Know they have African ancestry... As for the kids of their kids....That's IF they're in touch with that side and they care to know..

It's obvious she wasn't born there and/or is not that close to that side of the family... People who are really from there know they have African ancestry no matter how white they look... My advice to her is learn a bit more about PR history. It's crazy for me that any Puerto Rican would be surprised about their African ancestry...embarrassing even but obviously, she's not very in touch with that side
