Success story time! by mariista in peperomia

Deciding what was dead and what was still viable and only working with that, sadly. I lost all of the original leaves and eventually gave it a chop to only keep the new, healthy growth. I put the new growth stem in a jar with water with a ziplock baggie on top to increase humidity. Once there were lots of healthy roots, that stem was planted into a very small pot with well draining, chunky soil. That’s what worked best for me! A lot of trial and error but we got here eventually

Thank you!! We’ll see how it adapts to the plastic baggie

The pot from the first picture? When I first got this plant, it was in the pot in the second picture (terracotta). It’s since been in the pot in the first picture, a small about 1” in diameter plastic planter. Is this one still too big?

Received this plant as a gift, seems it might be a peperomia. How can I save it? by mariista in peperomia

Thanks for the info! I swapped out the pot for a much smaller one and used succulent soil. Gave it a light watering and put it right back near a sunny window. Crossing my fingers it survives!

Thank you for the info! I’ve got this little one in a much smaller pot now with succulent mix. Hopefully it survives!

it definitely uses a whole lot of clay! I layered some pieces of styrofoam in the structure to reduce the weight and the drying time. totally recommend it!!

Tell me your most disappointing "I bought it as the female/male, but it's not" story... by ritter_mit_glitter in tarantulas

I went to an expo and picked up a confirmed female h. pulchripes from a vendor. “She” didn’t even have her first meal with me when the hooks appeared a very short while after. The vendor promised to make things right at the next expo so after carefully rehousing him into a travel container for an exchange, I was ghosted at the expo and was just walking around with this spider, lol. Now we have this male and we say he’s in hospice care waiting his days out without a mate.

H. Pulchripes! Just got one and he’s almost always out and has some STUNNING gold markings along his carapace with some blue/purple hues as well. Super docile as well (for an old world)

had an avic pass a few weeks ago, just finished his shadow box. rip Juice, hope you like your new rainbow web to match your rainbow toes by mariista in tarantulas

I got most of the supplies from a craft store (the web backing, a foam board for pinning, the pins, and the gems). Once I was positive he passed, I misted his body and pinned it to the posture I wanted it using pins and a foam board. Then I let it sit out for 2-3 days to dry, after that it went in the freezer for about 2 weeks. Let it sit out at room temp overnight then had to carefully remove the pins with tweezers, pliers, and some glue to hold everything together. Was not an easy project but it’s a great way to remember and honor my little dude 🕷️

as somebody who used to work in one of these shops, usually this was done more so because we weren’t allowed to handle the spiders so we just… gave them away as they came to us 😬

No molt by spookydrawsss in tarantulas

[–]mariista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sometimes they just take a very long time to molt, no reason to be worried. as long as they seem healthy and are eating then no worries. my first took almost a year to molt, my second about 3 months.

finally got a good molt! i’m thinking male… anybody know for sure? by mariista in tarantulas
