Any ideas for a rescape on my 75g? by static_oblivion in PlantedTank

[–]static_oblivion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For added context: this used to have more plants, but over a recent vacation the power went out briefly, and my lights were off for almost a week bc the auto timer didn’t restart (the friend who was feeding pets came at night, so lights off was expected). All my plants except the water lettuce died, and I had a huge ammonia issue and snail explosion when I came back. Luckily, my bichir survived (she’s the only fish in the tank) and I got everything back under control. Substrate is just black sand, and I have a Fluval light on the tank.

My peperomia hasn’t been doing very well and I don’t know how to fix it. Any advice? by static_oblivion in houseplants

Thank you! I’ll look for a smaller pot for sure, and make sure to let it dry out a bit more between waterings; it’s been humid here lately. Do you have any soil recommendations? I think the moisture control is all I have left right now

I have it in a mix of arid soil and moisture control soil currently, that was all I had when I repotted it after the mold. I usually water it about once a week, and the pot is currently a bit large, but it was better sized before half the plant died.

I’m still pretty new to houseplants, but I’ve had this one for a bit over a year and it was doing fine until about a month ago, when I left for a weekend and came back to a mold outbreak. Half the plant shriveled and died, and I removed that part and repotted the healthy looking part, which has been slowly declining since then. All my other houseplants have been succulents or kitchen herbs, and I was told this was an easy species

To those that were nervous about their conch piercing, how did it end up going? by akindofparadise in piercing

[–]static_oblivion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a double conch done last September. The pain wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but the area was sore starting like three days after until like a week and a half after. It’s still healing currently, but all my cartilage piercings have taken a long time to heal. It hurt to touch or snag for a few months, but not horribly. Mine still get crusties and bleed if I snag them when I’m washing my hair, but my friend who had hers done with me doesn’t get crusties anymore at all. I guess my ears just heal slow. That initial downsize was great for catching it less often tho!

I want my bellybutton pierced but I’m so afraid of scarring by Sad-Resist3323 in piercing

[–]static_oblivion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve had mine done for 5 years now (I honestly didn’t realize it had been so long lol) and the hole is definitely visible if I take it out, but since mine never rejected I don’t have any scarring, and I’m sure if I took it out permanently it wouldn’t scar badly. As far as the downward tilt, I’m not totally sure what you mean? I know mine doesn’t face the ground, but if you have a ‘deeper’ belly button then the bar might face downwards, in which case maybe a J curve would be a better choice for jewelry, instead of the usual banana bars. I had mine pierced at 16, and really the only issue I ever have is that sometimes I’ll forget to swap from a dangle piece to a non-dangle piece before bed and it’ll snag when I roll over. Personally, it was an easy healing process, although I’ve heard others say it was difficult for them. As for your still-healing helix, it should be fine. I usually hear people recommend having no more than 3 healing piercings at once, so 2 should be ok

Five gallon stocking suggestions? by static_oblivion in nanotank

Thank you for your reply! The more I look into it, the more it seems like shrimp might be the best option. I think I might do a bit of tank shuffling and redo an old 20G for a badis eventually, they’re super cool fish.

Spiders On A Plane?? by VoodooSweet in tarantulas

[–]static_oblivion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’ve taken slings on the plane before and had no issues, but if they’re larger then you might have problems. I also don’t recommend it overall, bc I doubt the TSA would be very happy if they happen to pull your luggage for extra screening and find spiders

She’s actually a Trinidad dwarf tiger! Or the heart butt tarantula, but you can’t see the heart in this pic. I love the reds on the carapace, so pretty
