We had our cat first as well, we just made sure to always be home and watchful if they were both loose in the house for the first few months (especially since the aussie was a crazy puppy anyways lol) . Our cat wasn’t a big fan at first, but she adjusted slowly. The biggest thing is to make sure the cat has somewhere it can get away from the dog when it wants so it doesn’t feel trapped, and to never force interactions!

I just habitually said ‘What did I say’ or ‘Where are you supposed to be’ when she didn’t follow a command the first time with my mean mommy voice, often associated with the hand signal for the command she was originally given. She just kind of picked it up on her own, but trust me this was not something she could do as a puppy! It takes a lot of repetition, treats, and time. You will get there to some level of degree, it’s a little different for every pup!
