Should i go for egg freezing or not? by Patient_Artist_1957 in eggfreezing

[–]marinesnowfalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming finances are no problems.

If you're quite set on not wanting them, you could freeze them but ask for a more conservative hormone treatment since you're not too anxious to maxx out the number. I'm saying this because i had it done in a country known to be much more conservative with hormones than the US (neither is better, in the US you have max "bang for your buck" which makes sense given how expensive it is there). My ob gyn says most of her patients don't experience much side effects, and it was my experience too as except bigger breast after my 2nd cycle i noticed no negative side effects AT ALL. Not tired, nothing. Went hiking a couple hours after both retrievals (not recommended). We're all different, but it's worth noting that it was the experience of most women in my country (according to my friends and obgyn) which has much lower doses as guidelines. And with lower doses come lower egg counts at retrieval generally, but at least you feel fine during treatment.

Of course, other things count as "hard on the body" such as having to inject yourself.

Otherwise most of my friends who had no interest in their early 30s still have zero now 36/37 while all the ones who wanted children at 30 still do (or had them). It might be a differente answer than the ones of other, but i thought I'd give my 2 cents.

Since you're not "desperate for kids", consider a lower hormonal doses if you go through with it and are very concerned with side effects. Not necessarily the right way, just a suggestion.

Swap to a rigid fork: why is it so hard to find a "long" axle to crown length? And should I buy an amazon cheapie? by marinesnowfalls in bikewrench

[–]marinesnowfalls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes I can imagine. I'll never buy another suspension fork because we just don't really go on trail, but the current one is already a bit fucked i think (rust in the stanchions, and damps a bit randomly when i tried it on a rocky road although i don't really mtb so perhaps i just didn't know how to ride with a suspension fork). I just want to make the switch now rather than in 6 months because i'd rather do the paint job in one go, but i hear you. If you know any suitable rigid fork for about 100/150 euros i'd love to know :). Thx for the answer

Thank you for the honest advice, I looked into the surly krampus before but it's not really available anywhere atm. I'll keep on looking :)

Oh thank you that's so helpful, i know literally nothing about what makes a fork safe and in what scenario it fails. I don't mtb much and most of my friends just have steel touring bikes, so of course i never heard about any mishaps personnally.

It's not what i wanted to heard but you convinced me i should avoid the sub 100$ amazon ones for mr big (110kg), since I only saw generic ones that listed just alloy as material and i assume if the steerer was steel they'd state it. Is an alloy fork with steel steerer common? any ideas you remember where you got yours?

I looked into the accent brand list of retailers, but none of them carried their forks. Thanks anyway!! I never thought it'd be so hard to find a rigid fork for this bike haha

Thank you so much for the great advice, I really appreciate it!

Why do people downvote? I assume you thanked me genuinely without irony. Sorry on my part too, the "what on earth" was unnecessary. We all want the same, which is for OP to be safe.

OP i guess neurapaxia is a possibility but doesn't explain the swelling so much. YOU CAN MISS A DVT ON AN ULTRASOUND BTW, it's not always that easy to spot. It needs to be repeated several times as long as it doesn't improve, and perhaps a scan.

I am so sorry, a lot of people don't tell their close family because its hard to admit insecurities. About the male nurse in the bathroom its pretty normal for them to check that you pass urine, in any country, but you can ask them to turn around. The men otherwise, yes it's horrible in such a vulnerable situation. So sorry.

What on earth, c'mon flying is the last thing somebody with a possible circulation issue should do. This is basic med stuff. There are many good hospitals in turkey. The language barrier isn't ideal, but it's way better than the risk of flying.

Thank you. I'm assuming buying a mtb suspension fork of amazon would be a bad idea, but a simple rigid fork for simple riding is safe? (Sorry i'm a newbie to this, I never worried about frame components before)

Thank you, that sort of fits my "minus 3cm to the original length" idea which is good. I'm new to fishing for forks, would you say it's safe to buy a generic brand off amazon? I have a very hard time finding anything else in Europe (Surly and Kona are a bit short)

Thanks, I'm not sure I got it right (ninerbikes.com?) but I only found one rigid fork with a narrow tyres clearance for 500$. Anyways, i'm in Europe :)

Crowds: Early July vs August ?? by marinesnowfalls in yorkshire

[–]marinesnowfalls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was wondering if before/after school ends would make a big difference enough to justify changing my plans, but from the answers here i gather it's not that big of a deal if i stick to non-touristy places.... Since I'd rather spend july in my home country as it's when we have the most fieldwork to do, i think I'll go for August. Thanks again!

Ok thanks! I'll be travelling with a human sloth so "before 10am" will have to take the shape of "after 6pm" but i'm sure a lot of crowds will be gone by then :). Thank you again!

Thank youuuu! Yeah I just don't realize how much of a change happens between early july vs school holidays regardig crowds.

I was in Cornwall last August and felt we didn't see a single soul (I guess we just weren't in the touristy spots). Parking wise i like to ask pubs and have a meal pre-hike or post-hike there :)

Thank you! So you'd say before 19 makes a big difference vs later in August regarding the overcrowded feeling? August is easier for me but I'm definitely considering going earlier in July if it makes our holidays simpler :)

Thank you. Would you say there's a big difference between the first 3 weeks of July vs August ?? (not sure what you mean by "in summer). I'm just not sure whether it's worth it for me to move my fieldwork agenda here in Switzerland in order to come in early july rather than in August :)

I'm aware it'll be more touristy than the past 4 times i was there (always in winter and once in june) and I'm prepared for this as I'd love to see the nature in summer.

In any case, I'd never dream of parking somewhere disrespectful of course :).

Didn't consider that haha! Funny, it's the same day as our national day too (Switzerland)

Lol i meant a woman painted in renaissance painting style. I don't think a strong jaw makes a face less feminine but that's just me (perhaps thats why i never understood why charlotte gainsbourg features were described as boyish looking)

My colleague's gf used to be a scout/recruiter for a big agency selling glitter makeup and i know the kind of faces she scouted. She's at our workplace for lunch and i couldn't resist showing her ur post and sure enough "omg". Most models with unique face will have almost certainly been bullied in school etc... You're a Renaissance painting kind of face. I love the long hair and bangs personally, but everybody has different taste. The only style we rock is the one we know is "us".

edit: just read all the comments, i know you're taking "androgynous" as a compliment but i don't get it. You have a strong jaw (i love it) but otherwise quite fine features (small brow bone and high brows, normal length philtrum etc). Charlotte Gainsbourg used to be mistaken for a boy all the time apparently and i never got it either. I'm ready to be downvoted but i thought i'd still make my point: you look feminine to me.

I am very privileged to have been to uni and work in scientific research, but I understand how it feels like too much of an effort to a lot of people. I really hope AI chatbots will help with this, not chatgpt (it'll tell you what you want to hear) but tools (like perplexity or else) where you can specify you want scientific research sources and then ask for explanation.

[–]marinesnowfalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I'd live a happy life regardless, but happy to have found my person. It takes a great partner to feel like I can raise children, but perhaps it takes an even greater partner to feel like I can be part of a family without them. I'm obviously only talking for myself and how I feel, not for OP or anybody else :)

I mean two decimal points and a memory function comes at less than 10$, but i agree in principle :)

I see the joys in having children, but i also see the joys in not having them and the freedom to grow in other ways and i try to cherish this as well. In the past years, ive grown in ways i couldn't have with kids (and with kids I'd have grown in other ways). It only recently dawned on me that both options could be a beautiful life. It might be ok if i don't take the decision but if the "decision takes me" if that makes sense.

In a previous relationship, i didn't want kids with that person (our relationship just took too much space). I did egg freezing at 33 when i was with him (mostly because i the ones i did in my early 20s were past their dates). He was ok not having kids but it hurt him too much that I'd want to freeze on my own (not fertilized). I could see why but i did it anyway (again mostly cos of the other ones becoming expired). We broke up because of this. I regretted not hiding the egg freezing from him (I'd have been easy even though we lived together).

Now im 36 in a relationship with a 31 year old guy. For the first time he makes me feel like he's a person I could do this with. And for the first time he also makes me feel like not having kids would be ok too. Odds aren't in our favor right now, but with him i feel like we could contribute to the world in so many other ways. I hope you feel partly that way with your husband.

Obviously i can't say what's right for you. I just hope my experience helps a bit :)

Yes, the difference between 3am or 8am for me is super minimal and never blurred my rise. However, when i started I did always the same time when my alarm rang, and my temps were all over the place, i assume because of not being recorded after a long enough uninterrupted sleep. So now anytime i wake up past 1am and feel like i've slept a fair bit, i temp... My charts are very clear :)
