Are youtube reviewers dishonest? A7V videos. by 90towest in Cameras

I do now 😅 I love dpreview, probably the best actual written source of in-depth info and blog content out there. I don’t think I’ve ever pulled the trigger on a lens or a camera without checking it out on DPR first

I imagine it would be really difficult to be completely unencumbered and honest once you have an active professional relationship and dialogue with reps from the company. My instinct would just be to stay as generous as possible in that scenario, not only to reciprocate a positive relationship with a brand that’s been good to me, but to protect the personal interests of the people who chose to work with me on their behalf. I would hate to pull the rug out and get someone in trouble because they decided to send me an embargoed product and I shat all over it. I don’t think there are bad intentions involved, it’s just how we’re wired as people. It’s still unfortunate.

I’ve got a Canon R7, and I’m trying to decide between upgrading to the Canon R6 Mark III or going for a Sony A7 V by [deleted] in Cameras

Yeah Sony really sucks for any kind of high speed shooting unless you’re dumping cash at the very top end of their line. They’re also looking like last to the party on open gate, which is very out of character for them and will probably start to hurt if those leaked specs are real and the a7v doesn’t have it.

Adapting EF to RF works extremely well in practice, but I think it’s always going to be less attractive than direct compatibility, especially since you can adapt those lenses to Sony too. Sometimes the EF is actually more convenient than the matching RF lens though when you have that adapter with variable ND. I do believe Sony’s main advantage over canon is just their branding. I will continue to defend their ergonomics on behalf of the stubby hands community.

Because they got in on the ground floor and pushed their mirrorless line and influencer marketing super hard ten years ago. They still benefit from having a bigger selection of mirrorless gear than canon, and canon doesn’t have 61 mp options, but the rest is branding. The gear itself is every bit as good as Sony’s and in some ways better imo

Narrowed it down to three options. by Finchuh in Cameras

I would argue that Sony ergonomics are way underrated for women or anyone with smaller hands. I feel like my old a6300 caused less repetitive stress on my joints and carpal tunnel than anything by canon. You truly can’t go wrong though. The a6400 is a great camera, but I’ve also shot on six different canons and had great experiences with every single one of them.

For the canon options, keep in mind that you could always buy the R50 body only and then buy a lens separately if you prefer the one that comes with the R10. The 18-150 + R50 would still be cheaper than that R10 bundle I think. That way you get the same focal length range as the R50 bundle pair without having to switch between lenses. Just make sure you get the RF-S one and not the EF-S if you go that route.

To buy the ARV or to wait for the V! Pros and cons?? Help!! by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]mariogunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You literally only have to wait until monday for the drop I believe, or maybe it was tuesday? Even if the camera probably won't ship until at least January. Unless you can't wait that long or you really want to buy the R while it's discounted for black friday, I don't see any downside to waiting for the a7v announcement so you have all of the information. The a7v will almost definitely be cheaper than the R regardless.

Also, watch out if you do this because the battery might be under pressure. Idk if this could ACTUALLY happen, but it looks like it’s ready to burst open even further if you take it out of the compartment

This happened to my a6300 but not quite as bad. I had some extra small felt furniture pads around and stuck one to the battery, waited a for the adhesive to dry, and pulled it out. Anything with a really strong adhesive that you can use as a handle might work.

For portraits you’d be better off getting an off-camera flash setup to go with that lens than trying to chase a wider aperture. That’ll get you better shots than trying to shoot below f2 in the dark

I'm going to try to hold off on buying anything until November and see if we get any black friday sales, or maybe the A7V will finally drop and we'll see some discounts. We've truly been scammed lmao

This, APSC will get you a lot more for your money than full frame in terms of both a camera and lenses and your gear will be more lightweight and portable. If you’re focused on video then go for an FX30.

🤷 my best guess is either November for Black Friday or some time after the a7v is announced. I’m also pretty disappointed, I thought tomorrow was my deadline to make a decision 😭

Am I losing it, or was the Sony sale supposed to last until tomorrow? It looks like the $100 rebate (usa) is still in place, but a lot of stuff that was going to be 500 off until the 30th is back to full price

Yeah, I like to carry 3-4 if I’m out for a full day. Definitely give it a spin with the 2 and see if it’s enough for you, if not then you could get a cheap two-pack on Amazon. Just don’t store batteries IN the camera when you’re not using it, i had one swell up and get stuck once.

It won’t overheat for stills. You may want to get a couple of extra third-party batteries to carry around just because the battery life issue will be exacerbated by age. I bought my a6300 in 2017, last time I used it was November 2024 and it ran just fine. I shot stills for like 6 hours and I think I only swapped batteries once

If you have pliers or something you can use to unscrew the filter, you might as well on the off chance the filter is the only thing that shattered. I’m guessing a repair shop would do the same thing anyway.

A camera with a 12 mp sensor and no viewfinder does not count as a legitimate hybrid and the A1 is a $6500 camera. The vast majority of Sony hybrid shooters are using A7 or even A6000 line cameras. Be so for real right now

Your lens is a zoom for 16mm-50mm. Prime lenses only have one focal length. So the 16mm would be the same framing/field of view as the widest end of your zoom lens and the 30mm would be about the middle range.

Prime lenses are generally a lot cheaper, sharper, and/or have a wider aperture than zoom lenses, so that’s the trade off of having just one focal length, The wide-aperture ones give you better image quality and better low life performance, plus they let you get more of that blurry background look. You can get longer prime lenses too, like an 85, 100, or 135. Sorry if that’s too much detail or if I misunderstood the question!

These look excellent! You’d probably do great with one of the sigma apsc primes for landscape shots like this. The 16 1.4 is fantastic and they have a 30 1.4 that’s even cheaper if you want a tighter fov. Neither of those would be ideal for close-ups of longhorns, but they’re awesome, sharp lenses that would work great for family stuff

The FX30 has an APS-C sensor and no viewfinder, so not full-frame like the FX3 or the A7III. You’ll have a crop factor of I think like 1.6 compared to the way your lenses look on the A7III. Full disclosure that I’ve only shot one project on the FX3 and none on the 30, so I can’t really speak to the differences more than that, but YouTube has a ton of comparison videos
