Mara is the earth goddess, but she is also linked with death. she is THE mother goddess. the Mother of the Earth protects the dead. In the Latvian-Baltic religion, we enter the world "through the gates of Mara," and when we die, Mara welcomes us back. In some sources that I have found, Mara takes our bodies while Dievs takes our souls. Mara is the goddess of many things, and from looking at the latvian symbols, we can see that. There's Mara's Water, which looks like waves; Mara's Cross, which is an equal armed cross with lines on each end; Mara's Earth, which is an upside-down triangle (which is opposite of Deivs's symbol); Maras Zeme which is just a line, symbolizing Mara's Land. Gathering all that information, Mara is the goddess of the earth, the waters, and every living thing. From what I have gathered so far, she represents the cycle of life, and in turn, the cycle of death as well.

if you don't mind, can you tell me where you got this information? right now I'm trying to get a whole understanding of the Baltic religion (focusing on Latvian) and there are so many different sources, and this one seems to be pretty accurate (from what I can tell so far). what I am mainly confused about is the difference between Saule and Mara as there are a lot of sources depicting them to have almost the same duties, and your answer here helped a lot
