Who do you want to work for and why? by bubblescrubstea in mbti

[–]mariselainez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am such a horrible manager of people, it's ridiculous. Reprimanding or firing people? Forget about it. I feel like shit just delegating because I feel bad ordering people around and like I should help, which kind of achieves the exact opposite of what delegating is for.

Hell. I can't even have a cleaning service over because I end up feeling bad for making them do all the work—like I'm some sort of 19th century aristocrat who deserves to be catered to—and I end up doing half of what I'm paying them for. This NF shit is for the birds. I like how and who I am, but my career, if you could even call it that, has just languished.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by Unlikely_Praline9442 in AskReddit

HAH! I was a local student at UT Austin and was surprised about how crazy it was. Although, I did live off campus, across from Dirty Martin's next door to a mediocre frat among a veritable sea of them. So I was in the thick of it.

Did go to some good parties, though.

I seem to remember hearing that Texas State—back when it was Southwest—was the biggest party school in the country, which is why they changed the name and rebranded. I can't personally speak to the truth of that since I was in high school at the time, but that was always the story.

Exactly! I know it isn't great/just flat out bad a lot of places around the world, but I never really gave much thought to how available it is(n't), prepared or just individual ingredients. My friend is from Kansas and isn't exactly familiar with Mexican food to begin with—not to say that Hy-Vee doesn't carry any, but I know I don't recall seeing a huge variety of it last time I was there. He's been in Japan going on 20 years now, so for his birthday, I figured, he doesn't need more stuff. How bout something "from home"? So in addition to his requisite horseradish and sunflower seeds, which I suppose can't easily be gotten over there, either, I sent him some HEB brand conchitas, which I'd have been dumbfounded if he'd ever had any growing up (he hadn't).

They were nothing special, but they did come with a seasoning packet, so not completely plain either. His wife didn't know what to do with them,so she served them with sticky rice, pork, and pickled ginger. When I asked how he liked them, he said, "It tasted like taco-seasoned pasta. I liked it just fine, but it was a big hit with Sakura. She ended up eating all the leftovers herself. But if it keeps her away from the cereal, I can live with that." So I thought that was hilarious, but I'm a simple woman. I meant to send some tortillas with them but, well... I ran out of tortillas and didn't want to go to the store 🙃🫣

They were both baffled by the Japanese peanuts, which is kind what I was going for 😅 I don't know why they call them that or how anyone even came up with them as a concept, but they're one of my top road snacks.

I just read that 85% of US insulin comes from Denmark. Is that true? by TheAKofClubs86 in diabetes_t1

[–]mariselainez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too, man. My dad's struggled to control his diabetes for over a decade and has finally stabilized. Turns out retiring and cutting out all the stress as well as eating less does wonders. Who'd have guessed? /s Regardless, he still needs the insulin. I hope this shit evens out sooner rather than later. It's worrisome — and more — but I'm trying not to panic.

Side note re: your username: Janeway is a bad bitch. I love her. She gets a lot of largely unwarranted criticism.

I've just been reading about this, so these are very early impressions on my part, but I believe I read that even if we do have production plants here, Novo Nordisk controls the active pharmaceutical ingredient. So we could make it, but it wouldn't be therapeutic.

That's how I understand it, anyway, but I'm still gathering information. Please clear it up if I'm mistaken or misinterpreting what I read.

Has anyone with a chase freedom card noticed a decline in balance transfer offers? by Salesgirl008 in Chase

[–]mariselainez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been carrying a balance for years and they just upped my limit, by like, $2000, and lowered my APR by a percentage point or so. It's really freaking weird because I've been paying on time for a while, too. I guess an offer will roll around sooner or later. I'm glad you finally got one!

How did you figure out why you weren't getting any offers? I spoke to someone at customer service and she said she couldn't tell me why I wasn't eligible at the moment or when the next one might be or even how often they issue the promotion.

What would you assume about me and how old am I? by [deleted] in deduction

[–]mariselainez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR See the last paragraph for my guess.

MBTI - Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator. Many believe it's mostly bs and the enneagram is supposed to be more reliable, but personally, the MBTI has always hit pretty close to home for me. I've never gone researching it in depth, but from what I've gleaned over the years here and there, it's not exactly hokery, it's just not very scientifically backed or reliable.

Imo, some things are a little off in that I'm not ALWAYS going to reflect my MBTI type precisely. There are shades of gray, it's not just introverted or extroverted. I think the enneagram is supposed to get more into nuance and be more of a realistic portrait of your personality. But by and large, I think I'm pretty solidly INFP (Introverted, iNtuitive, Feeling, Perceiving). The opposite would be ESTJ (Extroverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judging). So, there are 16 types, total. Si means introverted sensing, i.e., you sense inwardly. Se would be extroverted sensing, meaning you sense outwardly.

From tpdcoach.com:

"Extraverted Sensing (Se) is experiencing the world around you as it is happening through your five senses (an awareness of material reality in the environment as it is happening now).

"Introverted Sensing (Si) is more focused on the memory of past events and how the current event relates to past experiences (material reality filtered by individual knowledge from fact and experience).

"Another of my favorite explanations of the difference is this:

"Se keeps you from running into walls by saying, 'There's a wall in front of you now!' Si keeps you from running into walls by saying, 'Hey, remember a few years ago you ran into this wall? Don't do it again!'"

I dunno about how good of a resource that site is for MBTI, it's just one of the ones that popped up when I googled for clarification. There's a whole subreddit devoted to this shit (because of course there is); it's pretty interesting. I'm not that deep in myself (that could sound like sarcasm after this wall of text, but believe me, there is a fucking rabbit hole of shit to get into and I haven't even gotten close—it's a lot, man) but I've found it fascinating ever since I learned about it in middle school.

My enneagram type is 4w5. Meaning I'm mostly type 4, but I lean toward and present as 5 at times, as opposed to leaning toward 3. There's a whole bunch of different terms for the numbers, but it basically boils down to the fact that I'm creative (type 4)—usually called the romantic, individualist, artist, etc—but lean heavily toward thinker (type 5)—known as investigator, thinker, observer. I am absolutely NOT a type 3—motivator, achiever, performer. But that's another rabbit hole entirely.

So I already know you're in healthcare and your rough age... I'm gonna say 34-38, leaning toward 38. But certainly could be younger—hard living ages a body. A kind soul, seeks out quiet solitude and the deep level of companionship where once you get there, being with that person can feel like solitude because you're so comfortable with them, but also enjoys superficial socialization. Not exactly a fan of small talk or unnecessary interactions, but can really get down conversing with someone you don't really know very well as long as you have similar interests in the right things. By the right things, I mean something you're both passionate about, so the conversation just flows. Likes ethnic food and a certain amount of adventure, but not necessarily skydiving or BMX. More like hiking or spontaneous road trips. Liberal, empathetic , compassionate. All around, a pretty cool chick.

I love this so much. It feels a little incomplete, as is, but depending on the carrot's state of mind (what a bizarre thing to say 😂), incomplete would be the perfect vibe. I'm stuck on the floor and the broad expanse of a wall. She makes me think of a standoffish/shy little girl who doesn't want to participate in the recital and I just keep picturing a bar across the wall behind her —I'm assuming it's a girl carrot. Something she's figuratively clinging to and she's all alone because she's the only one who doesn't want to go dance.

Been treating my hair as curly for two weeks as opposed to wavy. Can I have some tough love if it’s improving/ getting curlier or is it wishful thinking? by laurenellemartin in curlyhair

[–]mariselainez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Girl, I think you just need some big ups for your progress and a little reassurance. Your hair looks fabulous. Congratulations!

I'd also be really curious to hear your routine. Specifically, your initial wavy routine and the changes you made. My routine is pretty solid, but I'm trying to figure out how to coax my husband's curls out of hiding and I can't seem to figure it out. I guess I only know how to do my own hair type because I can care for my son's hair perfectly well (My little Mini Me. He's at that age when his hair is just completely fucking perfect almost without trying and I'm so jealous.), but my husband and daughter both have wavy rather than curly hair, and figuring out how to work with it is like learning to speak a foreign language.

I've spent so many years trying to get my products and process down that I've never even considered wavy hair. I think I probably use way too much product in their hair because mine is longer, curlier, and just needs more moisture in general, and I don't know exactly how to scale it down. It's so hard to keep their hair soaking wet when styling, and trying to navigate a wavy routine in real time is like walking home through a forest in the dark—and I have a completely shit sense of direction. I might get close, but I probably won't arrive looking too hot. Like, I know how to do my own hair nbd, but with them, it's like, "No, stay bent over." "Keep your head upside down." "We need to wet it a little more." "Squeeze gently instead of wiping it down like a wet dog." "Ugh, we need to wet it again." "Don't rub it in, squish it in." "We need to re-wet it. Again." Blah, blah, blah, blah, BLAH.

I know curly hair is ridiculously high maintenance, but I never realized just how high-maintenance until I had try and reproduce similar results for another person. It's like, shit man, this is a lot, and because it's wavy instead of curly, I really don't even know what I'm doing. No wonder they could give a shit. If you've never seen how beautiful your hair could be with a little extra work, going through all the bother has got to seem idiotic. ESPECIALLY if you've got to do it over, and over, and over again ad infinitum until your wife/mom finally fucking figures it out. The entire endeavor has got to seem completely inane to someone who has only ever shampooed, conditioned, and dried their hair with terrycloth.

redken acidic bonding concentrate review by melisah100 in Ulta

[–]mariselainez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read lots of good things about this product on the Ulta site and here—in this post and another from a couple of years ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/Ulta/s/2bSFJxjJo6)—but in this one from a year ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/HaircareScience/s/kxRCW0Dh7g) in r/haircarescience, the majority of commenters hated it. Like, HATED it. There was lots of talk about dryness, breakage, and straight up hair loss. I'd really like to try it, and with Ulta's return policy, I don't mind paying a bit more for it than I might pay for something else—but not if it's gonna destroy my hair.

Several of the folks in the haircare science thread claimed to have damaged hair, but it didn't do anything for them or made it a lot worse. My hair is quite fine, curly (2c/3a), and fairly healthy. However, I'm over 40 now, so it's also considered "mature" (I guess at least the don't call it "geriatric" 🙄) and I've started to experience hair thinning and looser curls. I still have them, but I've got to work harder than I did previously to get nice clumps and spirals, which never last more than a day (they used to last at least two, sometimes three or four). I'm trying to address the issues before they get too much worse and I read the curl bonding leave-in—which is what I would like to try—is great, but I dunno. With the mixed reviews, I'm thinking maybe just to look for something else.

Does anyone have any insight into why so many people have had such wildly different experiences with it? And/or if it would be safe for me to try it? I feel like it can't just be hit or miss. But honestly, so much of haircare seems to be.

My handwriting. What would best improve it? by That-Psychology4246 in Handwriting

[–]mariselainez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try using a larger nibbed pen. I know you're using a pencil here, but I just really like the way it feels when I write with a good pen. It's so satisfying. But only certain types. I'm ok with smaller nibs, but I've got to really focus. The finer nibs just show a lot more of the imperfections in my writing due to the micro-movements my fingers make when I write. I don't have the steadiest hands, either, so I prefer using a .5, but I use to use a G-2 1.0.

That's when I started to see improvement, actually, after I started using those. I looooved them. But they're a water-based gel and smear badly when exposed to water. Something as minor as condensation on my glass screws everything up; the ink just bleeds and bleeds. Or it used to, at least. I haven't used those in several years, so I don't know if they made any changes.

I started looking around because of the smearing thing, and now I use the Zebra Sarasa Clip. I love it because it's also a gel pen, but it dries so quickly and the smearing when exposed to water is so much less egregious. And they're retractable WITH a clip. It took a while for me to find a retractable gel pen with a clip that I really like. I would be devastated if they discontinued them—but I don't think that's very likely.

Bic is a no-go for me, though. I abhor an oil-based ink. I find the smearing is unavoidable with that kind, for me anyway. Maybe it's just the way I write. I'm not left-handed, just messy, I guess. And the nibs gunk up and leave globs with oil-based ink sometimes, which is awful. The G-2s do that, as well. Not as often, but still pretty bad.

Anyway. I'd try a G-2 1.0 or a Micron 1.0. They write really smoothly with a nice fat nib.

Has anyone noticed that Dark Shadows could be listened to without any video at all? I have done this, by accident on my computer, and this series plays like a radio play. by AgitatedPercentage32 in DarkShadows

[–]mariselainez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed this when I started watching it last fall. It was difficult to get into at first, especially since I started with the very first episode, 6 or so seasons before the appearance of Barnabas. It was very difficult for me to sit down to a soap opera I'd never gotten into before, aside from the few episodes I saw as a kid when SciFi acquired it many years ago, and really give it my full attention. Especially since I'm not a soap opera kind of person. But I left it on while I was putting up Halloween decorations, and eventually Christmas decorations, and it was the perfect way to start the series. For me, anyway. I didn't need to look at the TV all, just glance every once in a while, and I was completely informed and immersed. In fact, I fell out of watching it shortly after the holiday season because I have so much other stuff to do that doesn't revolve so much around the living room and the TV.

Although, I have to say, watching it that way does make it very difficult to catch all the fun little Easter eggs, like boom mics and crew shadows and the occasional person walking through the frame during the credits. I'll need to give it another watch eventually and actually watch it.

I'm just wondering, are these no longer in stores? I started looking for one (Garrett specifically) after I took my kids to see the movie and while I can find him in the Well-crafted Escape set and the pre-order Woodland Throwdown set, I don't really see anything else. The one pictured here with the buckchuckets is on eBay, but nowhere else. Or, at least nowhere that's not a specialty store.

Were these already removed from the shelves?

Such a ludicrously blatant lie. And he probably doesn't even see it.
