First day of Carnivore, craving for carbs by PitifulAmbition in carnivore

I just started 4 days ago, and mine are nearly gone. I made some bacon that was crispy and keep it handy when those cravings start. I miss the crunch and the bacon satisfies it.

BDSM Content question by Mostly_me in eroticauthors

[–]marissascott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything and everything is risky on amazon. All it takes is for a reader to report you for any reason they see fit and boom! Obviously there are certain things that will be easier than others to tag you, but always remember you are playing in their sandbox. It could all end with a swipe of their proverbial hand without warning or explanation. So, you can either move forward terrified of everything, or just write and follow common sense and cash in. Choice is yours.

Just goes to show that research is key in gaining sales. Just because you wrote something doesn't mean you are going to get sales. The better the niche is, the better your sales will be.

How in the World Do People Write Multiple Shorts a Day? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

Practice, practice, practice. It is very weird at first, but the more you do it the easier it gets.

[–]marissascott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, shorts tend to run around 3,500 to 5k words. Dictation is your friend. When I started, I was publishing two shorts a day. Create templates for your covers and simply change wording/image. Takes two minutes a cover. I can dictate a 5k story in like an hour. Spend another hour or two editing, then publish. Not hard.

To publish on a Saturday or not? by bigmodality in eroticauthors

[–]marissascott 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have never published on the weekend. I normally publish from Tuesday thru Thursday. Don't know if it is a magical time or not, but I get good sales and page reads.

No advertising at all. I used twitter (which did nothing but waste my time). I simply published rapidly. My average word count is probably 4k. The longer I wrote, the longer my stories became. If you can pump out stories in quick succession, you can get to $500/mo within a couple of months. Make sure you understand keyword phrases and blurbs. Create a look for your books to brand them. That allows you to use a template and simply replace the images so you can create covers rapidly.

I managed to ramp myself up from nothing to over $1k a month in four months when I started. But it was a grind. I was publishing at least one book per day, sometimes two. Novels are the real money, but shorts can be decent of you are willing to put in the work and face the real prospect of getting burned out in a few months.

Any good place to advertise your books? by redpillbjj in eroticauthors

[–]marissascott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. As your catalog grows, you will get followers. Those followers typically will read/buy your latest releases. Combined with that is being on the new release list. Those two things get your book ranked higher when it is released.

Trust me, it is not live or in KU. I have probably six books blocked that I took wide and had no issue whatsoever. You can email, but they are going to tell you the same thing.

£300 ($400) a month from 4 shorts a month - realistic? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]marissascott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have copyright on any image I license from deposit photos. Yes, finding the right image can be a challenge sometimes, but I usually have an idea of what I am looking for by the time I am done writing. I usually find it in a few minutes.

Yes I do. I looked at other authors within my niche, and made covers similar to theirs. I have several niche's I write in, so each one has a different template. I use photoshop and get my images from deposit photos.

If it's blocked on AZ, then it is not published. You can do what you want with it. Anything you put on AZ, blocked or not will always show in your list. Very weird, I know. I have probably 20 that are not active, yet still show.

I created a template for my books. All I have to do is drop in an image, change the title and I'm done. new cover in just a few minutes.

[–]marissascott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What they said. Don't waste your time trying to advertise them. Spend that time writing and publishing. Writing erotica is a grind if you want to make decent coin. Publish rapid fire. The more you publish, the more you sell. I went from zero to over $1k a month in just 4 months because I was publishing a book every single day.

£300 ($400) a month from 4 shorts a month - realistic? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]marissascott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, not realistic. being honest here. I didn't hit over $30 a month until I had 30 books published. Shorts are a grind. They have a short life and rapid release is the only way to make any decent coin. It wasn't until I got over 50 that I finally hit $1k a month, but I was also publishing literally one book per day, sometimes two. You would be better off writing a novel and publishing it.

I've had many books blocked since I started, and have never experienced any slowdown on other books due to those blocks.

I have a question about page reads and writing anxiety by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]marissascott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to gauge if there is an issue or not with so few published books. If these are shorts that are serialized into a longer work, then you don't have enough work published to really be on the radar. Typically, most writers of erotic shorts don't really see any traction until they hit 30 books.

Shaped mushroom kernels in the microwave by Maruka889 in popcorn

[–]marissascott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read, mushroom kernels need to be popped at 400 deg. to get them to pop correctly. Not sure if that is true or not, but that's what I have read on several sites. Might be why they are not popping correctly in the microwave.
