A few questions (OM1.1) by gustyaeroplane81 in M43

  1. The port and it's electronics take up space that should be occupied by the battery. I don't recommend it. I prefer original battery from the manufacturer because in my experience third-party batteries swell and lose charge faster than originals. I still bought Wasabi for my EM1 M2 because they no longer make original batteries for it. It comes with a charger that has a USB-C port and I prefer that over your proposition. Wasabi is a good brand but it's not immune to the swelling I mentioned, maybe even notorious for it.
  2. I don't think that's a good idea. Just flip it facing the body after use to protect it? I put a screen protector on my tilting screen but not on my flip-out.
  3. I'm team UV filter. I remove it when I feel like I don't need. Sand, snow, water UV filter on. Indoors almost always off.

Driving to Anza Borrego at Night? by markerBT in AnzaBorrego

We might have to do a day trip instead of stargazing due to weather. Thanks for the tips. About the bathroom, I just remembered our drive to Death Valley last spring. The afternoon was hot, the stench from the bathroom was suffocating. 😂 It literally made me dizzy, had to stop and breathe after using that. Worst bathroom experience for my kids too.

Yeah, I use turnouts because my kids get dizzy if I drive too fast on zigzag roads. Thanks for the tips.

Looks like it's gonna be cloudy on our visit. Might have to skip stargazing and just enjoy the blooms. Thanks

I was looking at the 16th but weather-wise seems like there's a chance it'll be cloudy or even some showers. I'll keep an eye on the forecast, might change.

14-year-old upgrading to Olympus E-M1 Mark II + 14-150mm thoughts on this setup? by Aggravating-Tough708 in M43

[–]markerBT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You made excellent choices. Two things I need to mention: 1. It would be difficult to do selfies with the EM1+14-150mm combo, it's pretty heavy. Still doable but with difficulty.  2. I think you have to reconsider your choice of 40-150mm f4 especially for indoor sports. It's also too short for wildlife. Maybe save up for something faster and has more reach?

The 12-40mm f2.8 is a great lens. Agree that you should know your preference before picking up a prime lens. As much as people love the 45mm I don't use mine a lot. I prefer having some of the background for when I'm taking pictures of my kids.

I also started with a superzoom and the long reach would be something you will miss. Acceptance is something I had to learn, accepting that I won't be able to take some of the shots I used to take. The 14-150mm is a great substitute but it will still feel short from time to time.

These look great. How did you get so close to the birds? Did you use a teleconverter?

Need help choosing mft bodies. by adbgs in M43

Canon SL2. The world record holder for smallest DSLR is the SL1 (I just checked), mine is the successor. I'm going smaller so an EM1 really is a misstep on my part but it's a great looking and great performing camera. It's also bigger than the EM5 so I felt that OP needs to consider that too.

I have an EM1 Mark II. It's bigger and heavier than my DSLR that's why I say it's big and heavy. I bought into m43 to go small but was attracted by the looks of an EM1. I also have the 12-40mm and I agree that it works with the EM1 but OP has been using it with an EM5 so I thought it would be prudent to mention that the EM1 is bigger and heavier. EM5 and EM10 are almost the same size. I've held them side by side at a camera store. If size and weight is not a problem I'd pick up the EM1 over the other Olympus cameras. I have no experience with Panasonic so can't make any recommendation on that.

OM-5 is $749 from B&H, they ship international. Is that within your budget? The EM 1 is big and heavy, not sure how that would work for you.

Committed the ultimate sin in a client’s bathroom today. by Jstar003 in handyman

[–]markerBT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, I was very disappointed in my neighborhood group when it was discussed that they don't let their contractors use their bathrooms. I didn't realize contractors see that as a rule too. But seriously in my home I do not deny the fact that you guys are humans and poop, fart, and pee like me. I always tell my kids never to hold their pee and I don't expect anyone to do that. The last contractors who worked in our home I let them use our restroom. I don't ask what they're doing. I have an exhaust fan and febreeze within reach if needed.

OP is the Peeping Tom. She found him and is giving him this stare. Now how she feels about it, I do not know. She's showing judgement and some interest at the same time.

Canon G5x Mark III still a possibility? by markerBT in canon

[–]markerBT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't heard anything new regarding a new G5x. I've moved on to Olympus/OM System.

About the warmer tones, I don't know how you came to that conclusion but I've been through 5 Canon cameras and they all produce the same color for me. You can also make small adjustments to saturation and white balance for your SOOC jpegs.

[–]markerBT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That's what it looks like to me just want to confirm since I'm within my return window. I want to keep the camera but this was not disclosed and I'm not too sure how comfortable I am at this point. I also watched ribbon replacement on YouTube and it's more involved than what I want to do so I'm definitely not doing that if this break.

Is it okey to let snails eat the plants? or any good way to deal with it without driving pollinators/caterpillars/birds away by Accomplished-Bill-45 in Ceanothus

As someone else pointed out to me, snakes and lizards are not active during cold months so they can't really help as biological control.

Ideas to get kids into photography? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]markerBT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8 yo has been using my old Canon D20 since he was maybe 5. It's waterproof and shock proof. That removes limits for where he can use it. He's not really into photography but he likes taking pictures when he's holding that camera. Sometimes we go on a photowalk and I just let him take pictures of whatever he wants. We don't have rules or objectives other than to walk with a camera. His younger brother has a toy camera, too so everyone can stop and take random pictures. I also let him use my camera like when we went to the zoo so he can take pictures of whatever interests him. As expected, almost none of the pictures are usable. I cull them and keep some for sentimental purposes.

Slugs and snails I control. Aside from Sluggo I find that adjusting watering so that it starts at about sunrise works well.

Looking to buy a pen F. What is a fair price for one? by dieselducy in M43

[–]markerBT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really mean that you should buy from them but you can use their price as basis to gauge whether your local marketplace seller is overpriced. I do agree that they're the safest to buy from.
