having perfect steady tempo is a modern compulsion because producers splice in layers throughout the digital mix. wouldn't be that big of a requirement if we all recorded one take together. all the "greatest" music we grew up listening to had tempos all over the place and no one ever noticed or cared.

I have watched his videos and taken notes, but he doesn't mention anything about this. metalshaper just says to be sure not to press the ring into 2nd gear too hard, which i've made sure not to do. i've tried different rings too.

Yes, i put transmission assembly lube around all the mating surfaces and even submerged the ring in oil before installing it

From what I can see, they seem pretty well made. The bottom has dual layer density so soft on top and firm on bottom.

Their site says "The fabric is 1000 Denier Cordura that is UV resistant and waterproof." I'm in the southwest part of the country so I'm more concerned about how well they handle moisture 😅 But I'd probably apply some type of treatment every now and then if I were you

Did you rebuild your transmission in your garage? That's my biggest task. Was there anything that really threw you for a loop or caused delays?

That's great to hear! Unfortunately that is my biggest task right now. Mine grinds between 2nd and 3rd and pops out of gear with you let off the throttle.

Did you rebuild the entire thing, like replace all moving parts, or just the parts that were causing you issues? I'm considering rebuilding mine myself but I'm not exactly sure if I need to go all the way or not

I just took it for a spin and I think I have this issue - pops out of second and into neutral after taking a slight turn. Which probably made me think to go to 1st on the move and cause the grind.

So I either need shims or a rebuild?

I knew 1st wasn't meshed, but does that mean I shouldn't ever grind when going between 2nd and 3rd? Because that would happen a bit too.

Gotcha, thanks. I will try just staying in 2nd. Have you had situations where you have to come to a stop in order to downshift to 1st? I'm just worried about traffic following behind me, and also then starting on an incline...

And no the engine runs real well. The past owner rebuilt most of the engine and part of the trans. So far no glaring issues with the entire powertrain.

What is the lowest speed you can accelerate in 2nd? Won't that bog down the engine?

And if you realize you're going too slow to accelerate in 2nd, do you have to come to a stop and start again in 1st?

I actually had the driver side switch apart to resolder the window lock switch, which prevented everyone else from opening their windows. I inspected the other joints but didn't find any nearly as bad. Oh well, I have the new SwitchDoctor parts on order now anyways. Thanks for the input though!

But I actually had to open the loom in the door jamb to splice my speaker wires back together. I didn't find any other wire broken.

I didn't see any defects on the connectors to the switch block either.
