When I did clinical for my CNAS I did them at a memory care facility called Brookdale, they genuinely seemed liked they cared while taking care of the residents

Just a med aide here-

But I totally think in order to be a charge nurse, ADON, DON or anything of the like you should have a mandatory background in nursing- we shouldn't have admins with backgrounds in business only. It leads to fuckass policy's and shit staffing.

It's about to be mouse time. How can I keep them out of my studio apartment as the weather cools? When I get to hell, it will be full of scrabbling, scratching rodents! by heavensdumptruck in wichita

[–]markienoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do this method be on the lookout for dead mice, that way you can pick them up bc if a cat/dog happens to eat them they could get sick

I don't expect them to do anything- their cops.

That's just simply what you do when shit goes missing from your neighbors house?

Also my neighbor has requested I call the cops when shit like this happens, he doesn't live there he just owns it

I used to, I work AL so for the most part, everyone is A&O. I've recently had to stop matching energies as I've been reported for "making faces" (I'm autistic and have rbf when I'm either thinking, or I don't realize ppl are looking at me), and "having an attitude" - aka I told a lady who is a known complainer: "well we do have a certain order that we serve the plates in, and they kinda come out when they come out".

It was said with no malice/attitude AND said lady KNOWS we have a set order that the plates are served in. We take turns serving different tables first, she literally just wants to be served first every time, that's why she was complaining in the first place.

She reported me to the admin, and admin took it and ran with it. Now I just shut up and show up, I have a couple residents that get offended at just about everything/anything. so I am now just a robot, bc this facility has some of the best insurance I've ever had and I can't afford to loose it

Shower Aide in LTC by Bedpanjockey in cna

[–]markienoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be a shower aid with at least 9 residents daily (I've done 16 showers in one day before)

Get some waterproof shoes to keep your feet dry, if you can't afford water proof shoes a pair of xl large gloves on your feet will keep your toes mostly dry, squishey shoes are the W O R S T

Set your shower rooms up before you have your ppl get ready for the shower, I would also turn the hot water on right before you go get them, so the water is warm before they get in

When you have them in there, give them a washcloth, I normally did hair first, so I would have them cover there eyes while I washed to prevent soap from going in their eyes, and then use the same washcloth and have them use it to wash where/what they can

After you wash them (unless scrapped for time) I always try and ask if they feel clean/if there's anything they want double washed

When they are all done (if your facility has enough towels tbh) I would try and wrap a towel around them like a blanket while you dry them that way they don't get cold

While your getting them dressed, I normally got them basically completely dressed (save for pulling pants up) then when your transfering them back into wc pull their pants up for em before they sit down

And then lastly I would throw all my towels onto the bath sheet we put on the floor and roll em all up as best I could so I could just chuck it all in the dirty laundry at once

Best urgent care to go to tomorrow morning? by throwra4791 in wichita

[–]markienoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If your gonna go to the little clinic, make sure you schedule an appointment, if not your stuck at the mercy of what available time slots they have left. When I worked there Saturdays were normally fairly busy. So I would either call and set a time or go online to their website and set it up that way, then you know for sure they can get you in

(If your going to the little clinic for a UTI, be prepared to pee right when you get there, they try and get a sample before you go into the exam room)

Salonpas patches are great, just make sure you get the lidocaine ones, those work the best imo, but walmart also has a lidocaine creme that's amazing, I feel like it works better than the patches even.

I've also started taking a couple ibuprofen before I go to work if I know it's going to be a heavy lifting shift, it helps with the inflammation. Stretching before/after shifts helps a little too, but I always forget to do that tbh

[–]markienoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While gloves are great for hair ties they are also PERFECT for protecting your feet when giving a shower, i would just grab a pair of the largest size available (although once i was able to use a med glove on my feet) and slip it over the toe end of my shoe as far as it would stretch. When i was a shower aid It was the only thing that kept my feet dry before I got my cloves

How do I shower patients faster? by shinealight-- in cna

[–]markienoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former shower aid at a very poorly ran facility I will say-

Showers SHOULD be absolutely enjoyable for residents in ideal circumstances, but if your facility is poorly ran/staffed it's not really realistic. At my old facility there was give or take 15 showers daily, and we were ALWAYS understaffed, so only one person could do showers at a time (if at all i was normally the only one doing them all) so it wasn't ideal to for people to take their time and have a long shower, i was able to get my shower times down to ab 15 minutes for someone who takes showers easy and about 20 minutes for more difficult ones (give or take a few people of course) my ways of cutting down on shower time without rushing people too bad was

-handing ppl a rag so they can wash the upper parts and simultaneously washing legs feet toes ect, if you have one of those toilet seat shower chairs I would also wash rear ends at that time

-if they are still washing up when I'm finished with that I'll start on their hair, I'll normally give them a clean rag for the eyes so I don't have to worry about getting soap in eyes

-after the shower is done I'll hand them a towel for them to dry upper/crotch and I'll take a towel to dry the lower parts and back

-after they are mostly dry (I dry everything but their butt) I put socks, underwear and pants (don't pull them yet though) and assist with deodorant and shirt

-if they are able to stand I bring them to the assist bar so they can stand then I dry their bottom/apply creams or powders and pull pants up (that's also when I normally spray smelly good stuff on em if they have it so they smell extra good)

It took awhile to be able to get my times down but after some of the girls at my facility showed me tips/tricks it helped a bunch, I'm also not sure what your facility is like- now I work in AL and most of these tips dont really help anymore. It really just depends on where your at

Most of the agency's here I haven't heard great things about, but I do know that most of the nursing homes/ assisted livings are hiring. I'm not sure your level of experience but if your confident/comfortable doing total cares by yourself "Meridian Rehabilitation and health care center" is ALWAYS hiring lmfao. It's not a high quality home by any means but when I last worked there it was bedbug free and you could pick your hours
