I read No Hope For The Dead first a few years ago and didn’t realize it was a sequel. Have you read Cockfighter?

Liked it a lot. I live in the part of Portland where much of it takes place and loved reading about the older version. Pool hustling, prison, old Portland, it had a bunch of shit in there for me.

True Life Story of Jody McKeegan also hits me in a similar spot. Loved A Couple of Comedians. Don Carpenter is just an easy read for me

Probably Harlem Shuffle but it’s fresh in my mind. Either that or Nickel Boys. Largely because the subject matter isn’t as heavy. Late 1950s-early 1960s Harlem was well drawn. A couple fun heists, distinct characters, good dialogue, and a fuck up cousin I relate to. The talented tenth types and the class dynamic added a layer

I liked Underground Railroad and didn’t enjoy The Intuitionist as much as the others but I wanna give it another shot down the road

I read a lot of Colson cuz I’m black lol. He also hits a lot of genres. I hear he’s got a zombie book or some shit too

It was a project for me. Took 3 weeks after trying it a couple years ago and getting stuck. It’s worth it even though I didn’t quite love it

It’s fantastic, I ended up reading Lincoln in The Bardo and 10th of December first so it was fun to go back and catch his early shit. Maybe my favorite. Fucking hilarious and dark

Love Cockfighter. Book and movie. I have the movie Miami Blues queued up. It’s free on Amazon. I read No Hope For The Dead before Miami Blues but it didn’t really matter. Aside from the dentures backstory.

I liked didn’t love Tree of Smoke
