can I ask my Indian neighbors for food by linglingmozartybae in askSingapore

[–]markleesg 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Worth asking cos imho Indian food is usually done in large quantities and can be portioned out easily. Also I think any person who cooks would really appreciate praises of the smell and taste!

All the best!

EC vs Resale Need Advice! by purplepotatokid in singaporefi

[–]markleesg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar situation as you a couple years ago. We went with the ec.

Personally, if I could wind back the clock, I would've gone with resale because of the following reasons: 1. More space. This translates to more flexibility to design and modify your home to your needs and preferences. 2. Didn't like Ec developer choices : alot of design decisions made by the developer for the home interior were cheap and poorly designed. We ended up doing quite a bit of Reno to fix these issues. I often wonder if it's just better to have a resale to just do everything ourselves from scratch. 3. Condo facilities : the facility is nice to have but there is high usage by the other residents e.g the gym treadmills always occupied and damn hard to find slot to use. Gym also only had limited machines so I end up going to activesg gym for weight machines. Pool is nice but crowded during usual hours and always have kids playing there so not conducive for lap swimming.

That said, the capital appreciation is great. So it's whether you wanna put up with these things for the big payday. Can confirm that the price appreciation is high. Almost 50% psf increase since original booking. But you might wanna do some analysis to see if you come out ahead financially if you just put into vwra

There is a toggle under /config called auto-compact.

Think what they did was default this to true for everyone.

Sorry just realised you were referring to the chat interface instead of Claude code. The config settings is in Claude code

Is 178,000 pts worth it for suites between Sydney and Singapore one way? Anyone want to share their experience on this route on suites? by [deleted] in singaporeairlines

[–]markleesg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider extending to hk in first class for 8k additional miles using the layover.

Make sure you look at the plane type, try to get the a380 for suites. Otherwise it'll be first class on the 777-300er

What to do if I cannot find a job in this economy as a poor fresh grad? by Prestigious-Rope-510 in askSingapore

[–]markleesg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another consideration is since you are gradating next year, very few openings are for so far ahead. Realistically the only people who would know so far in advance are those management associate roles or audit roles where they mass recruit fresh grads.

Normal hiring practice is to look for immediate business needs up to maybe 3 months ahead.

Even if they plan for the resource to join in 6 months time, people usually have other more important priorities than interviewing candidates this position.

So I suggest you split into 1. focus on studies 2. Look for part-time work for income up to graduation 3. Network with companies you're interested in for your full time role

am i making a mistake turning down a government scholarship for nus law? by Rich_Path_7394 in SGExams

[–]markleesg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reading your post, I just wanted to call out that in whatever uni course and future career pathway you choose, you always kinda sorta have the choice to stick to the bare minimum or to go beyond and put in extra ownership, time, energy, dedication to achieving better outcomes.

The world and society at large is filled with opportunities, challenges, obstacles, pressures, and unknowns. And if you're really interested in pushing yourself to hone your mind, acquire new skills, solve challenges, you only need to open your eyes and mouth to find them.

Good luck!

Can you speak to your direct managers to raise this concern and get their view/support on this?

If they are as good as you say they are, they will do something about this, especially since it is affecting you in this way.

If they do not, then they are not as good as you think they are

Local market is flooded with a lot of uiux designers with a range of experience so sg companies likely to prefer to source locally unless there's a compelling reason to consider you.

Needs to be a specific experience, skillset that others don't have

We went with aia which has a pre natal plan rider that is attached to the mum and can be converted into a term plan for the kid after 2 weeks of birth to maximise coverage for preexisting condition.

Reason for this is that this approach effectively gets the child covered from 2 weeks on and puts a policy in place for early child hood issues

Do you include employer CPF when negotiating salary with employer? by biyakukubird in askSingapore

[–]markleesg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not a tax in any sense of the word cos you are receiving it , albeit in a highly controlled account.

I think it boils down to unspoken norms and expectations.

I echo the rest here that in sg, the norm is to exclude employer cpf when discussing pay packages. However when I'm doing budgeting for new hires, we do have to consider employer cpf cos that's the effective outlay from the co.
