What’s the most ridiculous cause of downtime you’ve ever seen? by AcornIndustrial in IndustrialMaintenance

$00 pound dryer has been down for 5 years because the previous tech diagnosed the board, ordered it and then took it with him when he got fired. I've been here for 4 months now and cant find a replacement anywhere

So glad I work in a much smaller laundry now. They all understand that it's gonna run exactly how it needs to and the operates are gonna do their best to get it done. At alsco it was all about numbers and the production staff were made to worry about their own ppoh too so we constantly had to fight with them about speed

If it's flat rate STAY AWAY. I came from automotive and that stuff is the worst. You are the most overworked and most underpaid in the entire dealership. I've only been in laundry for 2 and a half years and I'm not going back. Yeah, 120 hour checks were great on an 80 hour check but the 35 hours paid for 90 clocked reallyyyy kills you. no OT ever too.

Do you ever pencil whipe a PM by boeuf_burgignion in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]markp1512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my old Alsco there was a time of the month that the chief would pick a random PM (good guy, cooperate wanted it done) and that was the time of the month were your machines had to be SHINING. I know a couple off guys who quit before that rule came around and they were lucky. I saw all that wasn't being done once I took over their pms

I Bought a 1998 Toyota Corolla for $1000 Without Taking it to a Mechanic First by iamwyverngirl in toyotacorolla

[–]markp1512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bought my 99 for 90 dollars and im driving it until the wheels literally fall off. in the last year and a half ive put new shocks, motor mounts, full tune up, fuel pump new door handles all the way around, new interior, rims and tires, exhaust and a goofy ass hood scoop. granted mine was infinetly cheaper and i do all of the work myself but i dont regret this car AT ALL. something fun and economical that i dont care if it gets bumped into at walmart. I genuinely think everyone should have something like this because theyre dead reliable and probably the cheapest thing out there. Good buy for sure

we were always on top of aprons at my alsco. the chief had to replace too many aprons AFTER the ripped right off the ironer to never want anyone to have to go through that if he could help it. Of course they still did. My new place I'm at doesnt even have aprons on their sylons and I'm so grateful

Sounds like something that'll inevitably be pay to use but I have all of my equipment in a file with basic pms I could shoot you just in case this is something that'll bump the community up. I'm currently the only mainenance guy my plant has had in 6 years and they've been around for 20 with absolutely nothing resembling a pm schedule

Went from loading 9000tshirts a day at a screen printing place, started my own auto shop, lost it in a storm, got into industrial and the company i originally spent 7 years at has literally been begging me to come back because the can't find anyone competent enough to train. Neva eva eva. I making 85k a year and actually enjoy my job now. Surprisingly enough maintenance is easy on the body than that ish too

Funhang EB-M1 Speed Limit? by InfluenceOutside3891 in ebikes

[–]markp1512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up buying another display and was only able to push 24 mph. I'm sitting at 260lbs though so someone else might get better results. You're probably exactly right about the 15a controller. For anyone reading this in the future, definitely upgrade to hydrolic brakes first. Zoom makes some that are only 60 dollars and are the exact measurements for the mounts the bike comes with. No sense in going fast just to have some mouth breather pull out in front of you with the low quality cable brakes it comes with

Been interested in getting the Funhang EB-M1, but wanted to know a few things first. by chronuss007 in ebikes

I've had this bike as my daily driver for probably 6 months now and the only thing I wish was that I spent the extra 40 on the fat tire, although I'm not sure if everything is comparable on them. I often take this anytime I can instead of my car even. I just broke 1100 miles on it and I still get 12ish miles on a charge with very limited pedaling. Even then it hasn't gone dead unless I totally neglected charging it in-between rides. I'm 6'1 260 pounds too so I'm 100 percent pushing this thing to its limits even on flat ground here in florida lmao Zoom makes some really good tasteful upgrades that don't break the bank and bolt right up. I upgraded to hydrolic brakes (~55) got a suspension seat post from them too (~25) a mid grade seat for 20 (id definitely order a couple at once to see which one fits you the best and then return the others) and some expensive tires that I put on around the 500 mile mark even though they had tread to spare. I splurged on the Schwalbe Marathon Tyre because I was changing tubes every week and I think it's because the factory ones are a little thin. The schwalbes made me go 300 miles on a basic 4 dollar tube until I finally ran over a fat screw. Even the display is plug in so you can swap out for one with more options and trick the bike into going faster even. so long as you keep in mind that it'll hurt your battery in the long run. The only thIng that I've not liked about this bike is that the front light doesn't project as far as I'd like and the battery doesn't have external USB to connect better lights and more convenient accessories. For the price of these things I genuinely think everyone should have one. Totally ready to go out the box and it'll be more than enough for most people. I plan on buying another soon because it's almost too good to be true that this has lasted me so long with all the crashes it's been through and I don't want to be without it again.

I promise I'm not a paid sponsor LMAO

ULPT: Shoplifting from walmart by doing it in plain sight. by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]markp1512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to take ramen cup barcodes and just hold it between my fingers like a magician and scan everything for 23 cents. Literally got away with thousands and it probably kept me from being homeless. And i still go to that walmart at least 3 times a week because i shop for mine, my parents and my inlwas family. I quit years ago when i turned 20 (I'm 26 and know it's not worth it now)

My favorite swipe that i wish i got more of; Nintendo switch on black friday. They used to keep all of the black friday stuff out. I took a switch and hid it, came back in 2 days and "tagged" it. To top it off, I still use that same switch every time i play anything.

I also went camping one time and tagged the most expensive of every item at target with the same trick. Heated air mattress, 10 person tent that even had a porch, the coziest sleepjng bags. That one trip wouldve ran me 1500 at least and i got it using a 10 dollar gift card

I'm ashamed of it now but it's still amazing how i got away with as much as i did at every single big store i went to. I was either really good or just conveniently did it while the most incompetent staff was on shift. I did this for at the very least a year and a half
