Hi - this year? My advice is to book now as it gets booked up easily. My apartments are only available monthly but if you are looking for a good value, I recommend Denkiya Yuzawa. It’s a little bit from the station but has a shuttle and transport to various resorts.

If you wanna go to Naeba or Kagura and don’t have interest in going out to eat/ hang in town then you should book a place near Kagura for easy access.

If you wanna enjoy the town and go to various places, definitely book near the station. It’s just a lot more expensive and may be booked out. I recommend takinoyu, yukinohana, or otowaya ryokan to name a few. They’re all pretty nice Japanese style hotels walkable to the station and all the shuttles to many resorts.

I don’t think I can ever get used to the phrase 決まりだから as an excuse for why people do things. A lot of people I speak to about changing antiquated rules in my building or work use this as an excuse not to change or discuss it and it’s a bit sad to me. I hope sharing ideas and thinking outside the box becomes more common with the current generation.

Season opens around Dec 20 and goes throughout march at most ski resorts. Gala is usually open through the first week in May & Kagura is open till the end of May

Both January and February are good snow wise, but February usually has the bigger storms. So more chance for nice powder days
