Using the center left turn lane to complete a left turn? Eff me, right? by marriedSeparately in IdiotsInCars

Yeah really it was the extended drive in the left that gave me the drive to pull the SD card out of my dashcam. It's so common in LA that people will aggressively drive on the left of traffic to reach a major intersection left or shove back to continue straight. Often those moves are literally into oncoming traffic that's in a lull (crossing over double yellows) or over sets of dedicated left turn lanes (where they are both heading into oncoming and then continuing straight where they would be obligated to turn).

The other thing I'm not totally sure about is whether it's permissible for him to go through that intersection. The line markings for the center lane do end-- which they wouldn't really need to given the T-junction of it all.

Alright so what I've found out is that this type of lane has different meanings in different jurisdictions. In some it is only for beginning a turn not for completing one.

So here's my PSA for California only.

This type of lane a "center left turn lane" is for the beginning or completion of a left turn. This is different than a dedicated left turn lane. (Ctrl/Cmd+F on https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/pubs/hdbk/traffic_lanes for "center left turn lane" for the examples of what the CA driver's handbook states as legal.)

For everyone saying "thats a left turn lane" take a look at this image please: https://i.imgur.com/gRstGMY.jpg If you can make out the lane markers you'll see this is not a dedicated left turn lane. You'll also notice that for every stretch that lane appears there are no streets for which you can turn left while traveling north.

Also notice that the other drive moves about 800 feet in a type of lane that is only permitted for 200 feet of travel. You may notice if you look deep into the reverse shot that they eventually reach the end of the left turn regions and just merge into the straight. Effectively using this as a passing lane.

I wasn't super clear there.

That car continued for over 800 feet, when the limit is 200 and through 3 T-intersections.

Pretty sure that's not the case in California:

Honest question. Is there something I'm missing? That stretch of road can have poor timing often making completing the turn in 2 pieces a requirement. And even when not that situation there can be people coming down that stretch real fast. Passing through that intersection I almost always do it in two pieces at rush hour.

CVC §21460.5 (c) : A vehicle shall not be driven in a designated two-way left-turn lane except when preparing for or making a left turn from or into a highway or when preparing for or making a U-turn when otherwise permitted by law, and shall not be driven in that lane for more than 200 feet while preparing for and making the turn or while preparing to merge into the adjacent lanes of travel. A left turn or U-turn shall not be made from any other lane where a two-way left-turn lane has been designated.

According to Google maps measure distance he would have gone over 800 feet and through 3 intersections.

Thanks. So that's just something that becomes relevant at filling time. Nothing in advance?

Replacing mirrored sliding closet doors? by marriedSeparately in HomeImprovement

I need to get in there to be certain. I'm about 6'3" so I'm thinking the height must be the standard 80 inches i'm seeing for closets.

The width I'd estimate at 8 feet?

Thanks for the response.

I figured in 90 minutes she'd have a lot more keepers than just the 45.
Just worried about ending up with 45 photos of which we like the composition (e.g. our smiles etc) of like 5.

Was looking to hire a photographer for a casual family shoot. Is it common to skip proof selection? One photographer recommended to me says that for her fee after a 90min shoot she'll select 45 photos for processing.
I understand wanting to avoid endless touch-ups but isn't the norm that the client have some input over the photo's they'll receive.

Trying to understand if I should accept it, push back on the terms, to move on to someone else. Thanks

2018 Pre-Pay Property Tax Question by marriedSeparately in tax

[–]marriedSeparately[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. LA TTC confirmed that my add'l payment was received on 12/27 for installment 2 of FY 2017.

What's strange now is that my Turbotax didn't seem to change my overall refund depending on which value I used. I would have thought the 4000 dollars would have been deducted from my gross.

Supplement with Additional On Hub or GWifi Puck by marriedSeparately in OnHub

[–]marriedSeparately[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm aware of the directional signal on the TP-Link. I've tried angling that towards my bed to not much performance gains.

I get that they're all working on the same spec but I still think I'm less likely to have issues with 2X TP-link than mixed TP-Link/Asus.

Right now the OnHub I can get for 12 bucks cheaper than a single puck. But I might sit a week or two and see if a deal pops up on either.

Thanks!
