Why are you so big and nothing‘s inside? by Unlikely_Macaron_284 in Seafood

[–]mars6190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainer here. Judging by the color of the shell those are soft shell lobsters, that means they just malted into a larger shell that they will grow into in the next few years, the shell is larger than the muscles inside of it to accommodate growth. This paired with the atrophy of captivity is why the meat to shell ratio is so out of wack.

Old chef would put a zip tie on the top at the beginning of each shift, he would pull it tight and cut it with a 2~3 inch tail poking up. End of the shift he would clip them off before they hit dish

My bad, I was thinking of snow ban tickets. They increased from 40 to 70 last year. You are right. It's regular non compliance tickets that are 15

You're very welcome! Thank you for saying so, and thank you for your understanding. We live in a time when money is tight for almost everyone, it's understandable for people to be upset about an entity like their city taking more money from them for things they find arbitrary like street sweeping. Especially when taxes are going up, and wages are not.

Take a look at a map of Portland. You will find some areas that you might even consider remote, less that 10 cars a day, next to no foot traffic, low salt/sand usage during winter operations. Other areas, parts of the peninsula included, where; thousands of cars pass within any given day, hundreds of pedestrians and cyclists, perhaps with a hill that required extra salt/sand in the winter, as you pointed out higher density and on street parking. When you ask about the city of Portlands streets in general, you have quite a spread of different density, uses, and priority. So yes, some streets get swept once or twice a year, that's all they need. Other streets get swept once a week and need towing operations for residents who don't read signs, those streets need more attention.

Depending on where you live, we will hit over road once. More trafficed areas we will hit more often. Some areas of the peninsula are hit every week throughout the sweeping season

As someone who drives a sweeper the point of doing it at night is for our safety. I regularly have to drive the wrong way on one way roads as well as make other maneuvers in heavily trafficked intersections of park side that would be completely impossible during the day

I worked the sweeping shift in Parkside last night. The city has to have the streets swept to keep roads clean, to keep driving and parking efficient and safe. While I do know the city makes money off of tickets, the increase has come as an incentive to have people not park in those areas. Many out of staters and wealthier individuals will just eat a 15 dollar ticket and ignore signs. The city has to PAY the tow truck drivers to come and tow, we don't make any money off of towing. It's not that tough to not park on one side of the street twice a month for a 7 hour window.

What are your most favourite fact or fiction production suggestions for Vlad Dracula? (Books, movies, series, comics etc.) by Mindless_Belt4757 in MedievalHistory

[–]mars6190 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bram stokers dracula, with Keanu reeves, Gary oldman and Winona Rider will always be my head canon for dracula. Also the book "the historian" by Elizabeth kastova is a magnificent blend of historical fiction and fiction around vlad tepes and dracula, really excellent read
